Joy Reid was wondering what Dan Quayle's qualifications were

From LA Times:
Much has been made of the alleged incompetence of Bush’s running-mate, Indiana Sen. Dan Quayle. Here, too, the Iran-Contra link has been ignored. When the Administration decided to expand its already illegal war against Nicaragua by secretly opening a southern front in Costa Rica, it used Quayle’s office. Quayle’s staff aide, Rob Owen, put North in touch with another Hoosier, John Hull, who owned vast lands in northern Costa Rica. Hull’s property, with six airstrips, became the secret Contra arms depot and staging base.

Perpetrating crimes against the US. That's his qualification.

And Pence. If it was an opera, Pence would have a tragic solo, about keeping his honor after feeling it slipping for many months.

It gives me the willies to consider how much has disappeared down the memory hole. How much ‘recent’ history just gets shuffled to the side while a mountain of bullshit emanating from current events covers everything and people forget about it. Call me old-fashioned, but even if investigation doesn’t find enough for even one indictment, it’s time well spent to document all the shady connections and dirty deeds.

I saw an article on Rawstory and was triggered by the last sentence.
However, that LA Times from 1988 starts with the bashing of Dukakis and it's painful to think about what might have been.

The guy’s ignorance, incompetence and life of entitlement made the thought of replacing Poppy Bush frightening to any political opponent.

See what happened when he tried to spell “potato.”
