For nearly a decade, Donald Trump has said those who stand in his way shouldn't be "allowed" to run for office. Kamala Harris has now joined the list.

But during his pitch in North Carolina, one the GOP nominees lines of attack stood out:
Kamala Harris ... shouldnt even be allowed to run for president, what shes done. Shes committing crimes.
The Republicans followers, naturally, cheered the rhetoric.

.....But of particular interest was the GOP candidates suggestion that his likely Democratic rival shouldnt even be allowed to run for the White House. If the comment rang a bell, theres a good reason for that:
In October 2015, Trump said Hillary Clinton shouldnt even be allowed to run for president.
In February 2016, Trump said Ted Cruz was not allowed to run for president.
In March 2016, Trump said John Kasich shouldnt have been allowed to run against him in a GOP primary.
In October 2020, Trump said Joe Biden shouldnt have been allowed to run for president.
And in July 2024, Trump said Kamala Harris shouldnt even be allowed to run for president.
Part of the problem here is that the Republican nominee is getting lazy, recycling stale insults, nicknames, and attacks.
TFG is recycling the same old crap.

(7,765 posts)In his mind the election went from his to lose to having some doubts of a win in just a few days, not only because Harris is the younger candidate but also his running mate continues to screw up. Not a good week for him.

(878 posts)He just doesn't have the "magic" (barf, I know) that he had in 2016. The majority of Americans (including many who voted for him in 2016) are sick of hearing the same shit get repeated over and over by him.
He's become boring.

She is living rent-free in his head. The more nasty things he says about her, the more he will hemorrhage voters, especially women.
Remember that line from the classic film NETWORK that goes like this as the character Howard Beale goes nuclear..."I AM AS MAD AS HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!"?
That should be the rallying cry from Women, the LGBTQIA+ community, people of color, etc. who are being BULLIED by the MAGAts in Congress and in their states.

(9,103 posts)Trump actually thinks we "should be allowed to die" because... he hates us. We make him uncomfortable, and his comfort matters more to him and his followers than our actual lives.
And it's not that great a leap from "allowing" us to die to actively making it happen. I'd like to think that's hyperbole, but the fact that I can't be certain scares the crap out of me.
We saw what happened in Germany with the T-4 program.
I have no doubt Trump thinks that should be a model for how we do things here.
