Everybody is focused on the you wont have to vote in four years part of the speech, but towards the end, Trump admits Im not Christian.
Seems like that might be important to share with the larger evangelical community

(28,836 posts)We do this all the time - ignore context and just fixate on what we think we hear, and then pretend that the context doesn't matter.

(697 posts)Donald Trump is extremely elderly (oldest presidential nominee in history) and undergoing severe and obvious cognitive decline among other health problems. His confused, slurred speech and inability to maintain a single track of reasoning are both common in cognitive decline from advanced old age. 😁

(36,669 posts)I do think he meant to say "I'm a Christian". Why would he say anything else to that crowd? We all know he doesn't act like one, but I do think he pretends to be.

You, me, & CNN heard that. I'm sure millions of others did. I definitely don't hear what the OP says.

(2,358 posts)So it sounds like he says "I'm n'a christian"
I've seen this video three times now. Its not like this idiot doesn't give us enough wonderful ammunition as it is with the crap that does spew from his pie hole. Joe has stumbled through a few speeches lately, but it was obvious what he was trying to say, just like it's obvious what tfg was trying to say here, no matter what OP heard.
I don't care enough to watch his entire speech, but I wonder at the "you won't have to vote again in four years" comment too. It sure seems like a stupid thing to say, but did he quantify it in some way before he got to that point? We don't need to take shit out of context, because like I said, this numbskull is a gold mine of malapropisms without our having to dig very deep at all.

(28,836 posts)Re: Christian -- people hear what they want to hear, and this is one of those times. In context, it's obvious that's what he meant, garbled or not.
The four years nonsense is hazy. In context (again), I think he was trying to say that he'd fix everything in four years so people wouldn't have to worry about voting, or he meant it would be the last time they'd have to vote for him, but that's not how it comes across.
Arthur_Frain
(2,358 posts)That's kind of what I expected his "fix everything in 4 years" remark was, but I couldn't stomach wading through any more of his rambling incoherencies looking for meaning.
Thanks for taking that hit for me!

(469 posts)I didn't hear "I am not a Christian" but whatever he tried to say, it seems pretty unimportant compared to his obvious statement about "fixing" it so that his followers won't have to vote any more. There is no discrepancy about that statement.
He barely speaks English at all. Trying to decipher his words is an exercise in futility.

(12,801 posts)...and there is absolutely no chance he didn't say, "I'm not Christian". And he even had the inflection when he said it, as if to imply, "You guys are Christian, and that's fine but I"m not." Kinda like saying, "You guys love soccer, I don't love soccer, but you guys do."

(15,750 posts)General point: If it isnt a crystal clear statement, we ought not expend much energy wondering or debating about it. He could easily claim he is extremely tired by his intense campaign schedule - blah, blah, blah - and misspoke.
What he did say, that was crystal clear, is that we wouldnt need to vote again after this election.
