Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsDid you hear what JD Vance did to his PaPaws favorite recliner?

Did JD Vance fuck a couch? It doesn't matter. It doesn't make one bit of difference if it's true. It's funny and demeaning. The right never NEVER cares if something negative about an opponent is true or not, they repeat it ad nauseum until it becomes part of the common belief. Hillary didn't BLEACH HER EMAILS!!!. Joe Biden didn't SHIT HIS PANTS!!! Michelle Obama isn't A MAN!!! But every low information/IQ MAGAt believes these bullshit lies without question because they have heard them over and over again.
It doesn't matter one bit if it is true that JD Vance fucked a couch, an ottoman, or a loveseat or has a furniture fetish. But if we can repeat it often and long enough, it will stick to him like jizz to a La-Z-Boy. So quit worrying about qualifying this made-up story with two sources and a link to fact-check.org. Just run with it. The next time you talk to a MAGA person casually drop into the conversation, "Ya know, that JD Vance is kind of weird. I heard he had boinked a beanbag chair." and walk away.
Here are some other bon mots: I heard that little freaky fucker diddled a divan, shtupped a settee, banged a box-spring, made love to MeeMaw's mattress, violated a vanity, assaulted an armchair, made whoopee to a cushion, jerked it in the junk drawer.
What kind of pervert fucks furniture? Possibly JD Vance. I mean he hasn't denied it.
See, none of that is true but it is funny and said loud and long enough, will become as much a part of old JD's persona as the fake hillbilly bootstraps image he manufactured.
Think. Again.

(20,294 posts)They lie because they dont.
This plea to lie is a plea to hand over the high ground when it has better chance to persuade persuadables.
No easier way to silence us. No thank you!

(28,207 posts)They vote based on their feelings. We should be encouraging them to feel a combination of creeped out and decisively amused by Vance.
We have to deal with the world we actually live in, not the one we wish we lived in.

(2,454 posts)but if the electorate responded to reason, truth, and facts, Donald J. Trump would never have won the election in 2016 and after all of the criminal acts, lies, and treason he committed during his four years in office, he damn sure wouldn't be the Republican nominee for President who is (slightly) leading in the polls one hundred days out. If you have ever watched anyone interview a Trump rally attendee, you would see a demographic that is completely willing to suspend their ability to check facts, engage in logic, or research any claim, no matter how outrageous. They roundly reject any attempt to provide them factual information that counters their existing false beliefs.
Regardless of the voluminous facts we have on our side, JD Vance mounted a Mountain Dew bottle.

(20,294 posts)Is to consider if we would like the world better if everybody did it. So we disagree. lots of people smoke crack too, it is very entertaining I understand. I'll pass.
I also disagree on a more pragmatic basis in that I don't think bullshit is persuasive -when it is exposed, and it will be, you have lost your credibility.
I think that Donald Trump has already sewn up the moron vote. I don't think that those remaining with a couple of marbles rattling around are going to be willingly lied to. Plus, which if you want to win you want people listening to you to go share your message. Do you think that embarrassing them will help you grow your side?
Do you actually think that Donald Trump is winning the argument for the hearts and minds of Americans today? If not, why should we adopt his bullshit strategies?

(42,251 posts)Trump has wrapped up the moron ooops moran vote/market segment.
Think of a pie chart and one slice of that chart is the morans. To that segment, you communicate in the kind of language and ways described by the OP. However, as mahina has pointed out, one loses credibility with the other segments in adopting such strategies. The more educated, psychologically well-adjusted segment of the market will not be attracted to such messages. In other words, to do so is wasting one's time.
What we can do is make the truth and our arguments in vivid, unforgettable language.
There's a real art to that, but it certainly can be done.
Here's an example. When I got my leaf blower ordinance, my fellow activists and I would tell prospective voters that they could drive a Ford F150 from Alaska to Texas and put out the same amount of pollution as their lawn guy does with a gas powered leaf blower in 30-minutes.
When you told a prospective voter that, you could see how they comprehended it and thought about it on their face.
During the debate, Joe had his facts together, but he didn't have them in a format like this, which is vivid and puts a picture in the listener's mind. It requires an effort to get every Democrat to learn to communicate like this. It's not easy, but it is effective. I'd rather see us do this than make up lies, however bizarre and colorful they might be.

(2,454 posts)But our inability to go on the offensive against offensive people in an sustained, aggressive (and humorous manner) is a weakness. Making a joke about JD Vance's passion for a pit group serves two purposes; one, it is funny, and it deflates the arrogance and unfounded reputation of Vance as an insightful spokesman for the poor and working class and two It counters his homophobia, racism, and misogyny with a two-word punchline... Couch fucker.

(3,203 posts)The punchline was that you could walk in on Ted fucking a goose and he'd look at you (with his @#$% still in the goose) and say "I'm fluffing the duvet".
It's a perfect Ted Cruz joke.

(20,294 posts)By deciding that lying is more effective than telling the truth. Now satire thats a different matter, but telling this population at DU, the truth doesnt matter and go out there and lie it up is some nonsense.
