(18,464 posts)Just trying to appeal to the younger voting block. They have been ignored for too long. We need to excite the youth vote with words, appearances, and actions.
But the decision is Kamala's to make.

(6,561 posts)but I've finally settled on Pete. There are good things to be said for the others rumored to be in the mix of course, but to me, hands-down Pete would be the absolute best spokesperson by far to communicate the goals and aspirations of the new administration. And in 2032, he'll make one hell of a presidential candidate, too.

(78,867 posts)do not win elections, but they can plat an important part along with other factors. But if debates alone determined elections, we would have had President Jesse Jackson -- something I hoped and campaigned for
I will also say that the historic campaign a cruel teacher placed me in, to oppose the most popular kid in my 8th grade, actually was decided soley on the debate stage. The teacher was not happy that, in front of our class, he said to me that he had been a good amateur boxer, and would beat me. Because it was the end of the class, I had to deliver my response -- a poem that would make Ali proud -- in front of a class of laughing students.
Hence, the next week, while studying state hovernment, he had kids in his classes "run" for office. The entire campaign was an assembly with all junior high students in the audience, and candidates on stage, delivering their speech. Although this was decades before Jesse ran, my speech delivered a similar message. And I won. (I'd forgotten that until typing this response!)
I think they are important, vut will admit that I lacked the experience to be a state official. And I couldn't have delivered the state for any Democratic candidate. Still can't.
I am hoping that VP Harris will select one of the governors.

(10,862 posts)What we have seen in the last week is one of the most remarkable political transitions I have ever seen.
Everything seems to have gone without a significant hitch or complaint.
Everyone has parked personal ambitions and fallen behind the mission to beat Trump.
My head is spinning - it was so well done.
I do not think many have really digested how incredible it was - in part because it was so smooth.
It could have easily been worse or a disaster.
Along with obvious gratitude to Biden & Harris for this, the whole team (or two teams) and the DNC and the others who could have been credible prospective candidates have my heartfelt thanks.
Not only have they got through it without a bunch of back-stabbing and bitching - the unity, the energy, the influx of cash and the turning of the polls - which has resulted in some good media with Trump flat-footed has been amazing.
These people know what the hell they're doing.
We're blessed to have a number of good candidates for the VP role.
I have little hesitation in my confidence that they'll make a good choice with the knowledge that they'll have all the internal polling data, facts, background checks, etc that we will never see.
I am so delighted with how they have handled this. It should be pointed out on podiums in front of the voters - how well Kamala and the Democrats handled this as evidence that they're up to the job of working together to quickly solve tough problems smoothly.

(422 posts)And Buttigieg would make a fine VP. There's nothing about him I don't like.
But for what it's worth, it seems like whichever VP can help win the election matters more than anything else. It has to. For that, I think Mark Kelly might be best. I don't think there are any wrong answers for VP, from the possibilities I've heard, I like them all. But there are different considerations. We have to win, by as wide a margin as possible. To my amateur political brain survey, I think it's Kelly that will help the most.
If she picks Buttigieg though, then I'll just be proud as hell, because I'd love that in-your-face too, to these horrible people who thought they could turn back the clock on lgbtq people. That win would say a lot for a better future.

I would contend that anyone who would not vote for a gay man, would also not vote for a woman of color..
I say the time is now to move forward with the best
Regardless of race
Regardless of gender
Regardless of sexual identity.
Now is the time.

(3,900 posts)...........I'd love it just because I want to see Pete just absolutely take JD Vance apart in the VP debate.
There are lots of good choices, but I think a dark horse who would be amazing is Sherrod Brown. I know we need him in the Senate, and I guess he's already said he's not interested, but I think that would be an incredibly strong pick.
I'm also very bullish on Mark Kelly, Andy Beshear, and Tim Walz. But I would absolutely love it if she picked Pete.
