Star Trek is the best kind of weird, because (among other things), it is always reminding us to appreciate diversity and see the beauty in it.

(4,129 posts)All the Star Trek cast have said the movie gave them perspective into why people live the show and be one Trekkies (aka weird).
A love for the positive values of the show. Roddenberry and the other writers and directors wanted to tell everyone that we could move beyond racism, sexism, etc to a better world. And if we didn't move past it, we would end up like the world in "let that be your last battle field" doomed to kill itself over racial differences that were of no consequence.

Asimov and Roddenberry were so great at looking at the ills of a society in a way that could change minds without preaching

(1,791 posts)He loves them. He knows his career was made by them, and they won't take it lightly if they feel he's dissing them.
Signed, an old Trekkie from way back.

(7,864 posts)They want to make things go, but they're too stupid to figure out how.
I have been to several Star Trek conventions, in Michigan and Nevada. They were wonderful! I felt like I was with "my people." The best costume I saw was full Borg suit, right down to the laser eyepiece, moving mechanical bit where the hand should be, and wires and tubes connecting different parts of the wearer's body. That was back when the Hilton hosted the convention - and they had a warp core in the bar area!

There's "what the hell" and there's "the horror, the horror".
