I think I'm going to do this

When I heard the news of the hostages' release this morning, I was hit with a wave of gratitude for President Biden and the realization that he is still an extremely effective, active President. Then I heard that he was finalizing the details of the release on Sunday, the same day that he announced he would not be seeking reelection. How poignant and revealing.

The American people have a lot to thank him for. So I decided to send him a handwritten thank you card. I want to tell him what his service means to me, a "nobody" retired teacher from California. It will feel good to express those feelings directly, whether he actually reads it or not. And if he does, I hope he will realize that I speak on behalf of millions of citizens whose lives he has improved.

When I retired a couple of years ago, I received many handwritten letters from students and former students. I treasure them and will keep them always.

His accomplishments are many and the release of these prisoners today represents many hours of work behind the scenes for their freedom. We cannot become an isolated country as this is a great example of why we need allies.
