Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro has canceled a trip to the ritzy New York beach enclave of the Hamptons, as he is being considered to be Vice President Kamala Harris running mate, according to a person with direct knowledge of the matter.
Shapiro was supposed to go to at least two events in the Hamptons, including a meet and greet with wealthy donors at the home of public relations executive Mike Kempner.
The Governors trip was planned several weeks ago and included several fundraisers for his own campaign committee, Shapiro spokesman Manuel Bonder confirmed to NBC News. His schedule has changed and he is no longer traveling to the Hamptons this weekend.
The meeting at Kempners home in Water Mill, New York, on Sunday was set to have more than 100 people attend, including those from the legal, sports and finance industries, the person explained. This person was granted anonymity in order to speak freely about a private matter.

I hope she comes around, but I worry there are going to be many more young like her.

I was guessing it would be Shapiro based on all the negative posts he is getting.
My daughter has always been a huge Kamala fan, no matter who she chose as VP.
Shapiro is very popular in Pa. he we will ensure 19 Electoral votes if he is the pick.

(41,634 posts)Anything a VP candidate might say is meaningless, it's Kamala's policies that will matter.
The main important thing the Vice President does is to preside over the Senate, and vote whenever there's a tie. Occasionally the VP steps in on official matters of state (shaking hands and greeting visiting dignitaries) when the President isn't available.

(2,020 posts)"it's a bridge too far" and other b.s. excuses. People absolutely give a darn about who is on the bottom of the ticket and young people are absolutely concerned about what is going on in the middle east right now and statements that Shapiro has made may lose us young voters, which HAS to be taken into account. It is not just about if he can have an influence in one state if he causes an entire movement of young people to cool, and loses us several other swing states with large Muslim populations.

For the record - I do hope Buttigieg will be Kamala's final choice.
But even if he isn't, I'm still voting BLUE no matter who.

Based on SC immunity stuff, all Trump and his AG has to do to is to say that Gaza protesters are Hamas terrorist sympathizers and then deport. A mayhem will ensure. SC will say Trump is immune. Protesting Gaza as Biden-Harris works on peace deal is a better proposition than Arab-American mayhem. Gaza will be razed and become a parking lot for Trump-Netanyahu hotels. Gaza protesters are being very naive. There are demons on both Palestinian and Israel. Both are no angels.

There might have been more tactical squad than Wallace supporters. Went on a HS field trip to a Hubert Humphrey rally in 1968 too; would be Vietnam War protesters and longhairs in general were not allowed into the rally.

In a CNN interview Governor Shapiro affirmed the duty of colleges to keep Jewish students safe from anti-Semitic protestors on campus in the same way they would protect Black students from KKK marchers.
Here's the CNN interview,.

(2,020 posts)right as he and Kamala are in the thick of it. There was the issue with the staffer and the sexual harassment case, the statement comparing students protesting the situation in the middle east to KKK (this will definitely lose us young voters and DEFINITELY differentiates his position from other potential VP candidates on Israel), and school vouchers.
He may have a positive influence as far as Pennsylvania goes, but at what cost?

To date, Shapiro has not signed any voucher legislation into law.
Manuel Bonder, a spokesperson for Shapiro, highlighted the governors accomplishments on public education in a statement.
In his time in office, Governor Shapiro has consistently delivered historic increases in public education funding and finally, after decades of inaction, moved Pennsylvania towards adequately and equitably funding our public schools, Bonder said. Despite being the only Governor in the nation with a divided legislature and despite bad faith attacks from all sides Josh Shapiro has been a champion for public education and delivered real results.

(4 posts)sorry but it will doom the Democrat party if he is the pick, given the war in Gaza, the fact Kamala's husband is already Jewish, and people will refuse to vote for her on these principles, it would be very stupid to pick him as the VP, if Gore had a non Jew on his ticket I would be willing to bet he would have won in 2000 especially since he running against a Born Again Christian

(80 posts)This is an aside, but I feel it is important. People can easily be educated to the fact that not all jews, probably the majority in the US, are are not observant of the entirety of the Talmud any more than most Christians have read the entire Old Testament. Same for extreme violent Zionism. Most Zionists are peaceful, they're just not influential. Extremists are noticed and everyone gets painted with the same broad brush. Clearing the national air is important.
Thanks for letting me get that off my chest. I worry for my Jewish friends just living normal everyday lives.
