Pennsylvania Gov. Shapiro cancels Hamptons trip, days before expected Harris VP reveal

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro has canceled a trip to the ritzy New York beach enclave of the Hamptons, as he is being considered to be Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate, according to a person with direct knowledge of the matter.

Shapiro was supposed to go to at least two events in the Hamptons, including a meet and greet with wealthy donors at the home of public relations executive Mike Kempner.

“The Governor’s trip was planned several weeks ago and included several fundraisers for his own campaign committee,” Shapiro spokesman Manuel Bonder confirmed to NBC News. “His schedule has changed and he is no longer traveling to the Hamptons this weekend.”

The meeting at Kempner’s home in Water Mill, New York, on Sunday was set to have more than 100 people attend, including those from the legal, sports and finance industries, the person explained. This person was granted anonymity in order to speak freely about a private matter.

Anything a VP candidate might say is meaningless, it's Kamala's policies that will matter.

The main important thing the Vice President does is to preside over the Senate, and vote whenever there's a tie. Occasionally the VP steps in on official matters of state (shaking hands and greeting visiting dignitaries) when the President isn't available.

People absolutely give a darn about who is on the bottom of the ticket and young people are absolutely concerned about what is going on in the middle east right now and statements that Shapiro has made may lose us young voters, which HAS to be taken into account. It is not just about if he can have an influence in one state if he causes an entire movement of young people to cool, and loses us several other swing states with large Muslim populations.

If Trump wins, Gaza protesters will be deported to Guantanamo or God knows where. Based on SC immunity stuff, all Trump and his AG has to do to is to say that Gaza protesters are Hamas terrorist sympathizers and then deport. A mayhem will ensure. SC will say Trump is immune. Protesting Gaza as Biden-Harris works on peace deal is a better proposition than Arab-American mayhem. Gaza will be razed and become a parking lot for Trump-Netanyahu hotels. Gaza protesters are being very naive. There are demons on both Palestinian and Israel. Both are no angels.

In a CNN interview Governor Shapiro affirmed the duty of colleges to keep Jewish students safe from anti-Semitic protestors on campus in the same way they would protect Black students from KKK marchers.

(WTHM) – Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro is the most popular governor in recent memory more than a year into his term, according to a new Franklin & Marshall College Poll.

The survey found 54% of registered Pennsylvania voters believe Shapiro has done an excellent or good job as Governor.
That rating is higher than Governors Tom Ridge, Tom Wolf, Ed Rendell, and Tom Corbett at this point in their first terms.

Fri Aug 2, 2024, 09:16 AM

What are you even talking about at this point?

Shapiro, both on the campaign trail in 2022 and as governor, has supported the idea of using public tax dollars to fund scholarships that would allow students in low-performing public schools to attend a private school of their choice. However, despite initially supporting a $100 million allocation for vouchers during the 2023 state budget cycle, Shapiro ultimately line-item vetoed the funding amid a budget impasse between the Democratic-controlled state House and the GOP-controlled state Senate.

To date, Shapiro has not signed any voucher legislation into law.

Manuel Bonder, a spokesperson for Shapiro, highlighted the governor’s accomplishments on public education in a statement.

“In his time in office, Governor Shapiro has consistently delivered historic increases in public education funding and finally, after decades of inaction, moved Pennsylvania towards adequately and equitably funding our public schools,” Bonder said. “Despite being the only Governor in the nation with a divided legislature – and despite bad faith attacks from all sides – Josh Shapiro has been a champion for public education and delivered real results.”

We don't need someone who calls themselves a moderate on the ticket to win a national election.

There's an awful lot of moderate Democrats, Independents, swing voters who beg to differ. DU type liberals and progressives are locked in. We're trying to convince and bring over as many to the right of them as possible.

66. NonZionist jews deserve a voice

This is an aside, but I feel it is important. People can easily be educated to the fact that not all jews, probably the majority in the US, are are not observant of the entirety of the Talmud any more than most Christians have read the entire Old Testament. Same for extreme violent Zionism. Most Zionists are peaceful, they're just not influential. Extremists are noticed and everyone gets painted with the same broad brush. Clearing the national air is important.

Thanks for letting me get that off my chest. I worry for my Jewish friends just living normal everyday lives.

This is coordinated, IMO, to not forecast the pick and to announce at the last moment so MAGA can't build a narrative before-hand..

Who wants to bet?

This is a person she will have to work with for 8 years. There needs to be a good working relationship. She will want to feel confident that she's making the right choice with so much at stake.
