(Well in 2016 half of the Republican Senators were taking Russian money via the NRA too.)
From CNN. https://www.cnn.com/2020/10/14/politics/trump-campaign-donation-investigation/index.html
Sisi became the first foreign leader to call and congratulate Trump after he won the election. At a 2019 G7 summit, Trump called out, Wheres my favorite dictator? as he awaited the Egyptian President, according to press reports.
Snip
The case even landed before the Supreme Court in early 2019. The high court ultimately declined the companys bid to block Muellers subpoena in March 2019.
Snip
Federal law enforcement officials suspected, in part because of intelligence information, that there was money moving through the Egyptian bank that could connect to Trumps campaign donation, according to the sources. Yet untangling the web of Trumps complex business interests ultimately remained out of reach.
Campaign finance law prohibits foreign political contributions to campaigns for public office. A financial tie between a sitting president and a foreign country could also have explosive national security consequences.

I wonder if Garland will even touch this because of the statue of limitations or is it too
close to the election?

(77,323 posts)According to a recent book by Andrew Weissmann, one of Muellers senior prosecutors, the special counsels office consisted of three principal teams: one focused on former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, another on Russias election interference, and a third on the Presidents attempts to obstruct justice.
But there was a fourth team, CNN has learned: one partly dedicated to investigating the Egypt matter.

Good God in Butter what laws didnt Trump and company break? And why isnt he in prison right now?

(77,323 posts)I think the level of corruption is so deep and @ so many different levels that it is baked
into the cake to keep things hidden from the American people because they are corrupt
too. It is almost like the mafia where they get you to do a crime to earn your bones and
the mob has something over you or Putin getting kompromat on people so he has them by
the balls.

(8,876 posts)Or what Kennedy and Ivanka discussed during their lunch date just prior to his resignation from the SCOTUS, creating the vacancy for Kavanaugh and the beginning of the Trump INC. hostile takeover of that court.
We do know Justice Kennedy's son was employed by Deutsche Bank, in the division that worked with loans to Trump during a time other banks would no longer take his calls. Makes ya wonder if that bank was doing laundry for other foreign powers and players.

(53,214 posts)could probably fill volumes.
There was so much corruption during the Trump administration, it is hard to keep track of it. I'd already forgotten about Justice Kennedy.

My peculiar mind sometimes forgets why I walked from one room to another, but has a powerful knack for recalling seemingly odd singular events and seeing the connections that tie so many together. I remember & remind, so you don't have to!
PatSeg
(53,214 posts)Of course with Trump, there was SO much to remember, we have to share the burden with others.
I realize that a lot of that was intentional on Trump's part. Whenever there was focus on one potential scandal, he would just distract the press's attention with another outrage. Then he'd just keep it going and going.
It rather reminds me of the Bush administration whenever there was risk of being exposed, they'd just change the color-coded threat level or release a dubious video of Bin Laden. They were so obvious, but people fell for it. Trump took it to the next level.

(32,318 posts)is what we don't know.
We know about the Saudi quid pro quos, Jared getting over 2 billion dollars.
We know about Putin funneling money through the NRA.
TSF isn't going out of his way to flatter Kim Jung Un for free.
I guarantee, without proof, that TSF stole classified documents to sell them to the highest bidder, Iran included.
Christopher Wray is wrong in saying the biggest threat to our country comes from White Supremacists. The biggest threat to our country comes from the Republican Party and its partisan Supreme Court.

(5,179 posts)Somewhere I heard/read that Trump was offered $10B to get rid of NATO.
One of those things that may or may not have been true, but once he was in Office with all actions, I came to believe that it was true. And then, I realized that he couldnt do such a thing within the first term because the American (some of them) would revolt. So, the second term was all important to him - and I still believe that is the case.

But how did the Supremes help hide the crimes? They declined to stop the subpoena.

(4,043 posts)Barr was supposed to be the respected former AG. He was the party loyalist who buried Iran contra and arranged pardons for all the traitors who stole the election by paying Iran to hold onto the hostages.
If we, as Democrats, had pushed on all the treason of Reagan and his gang. We would never had this stuff. Because they would have seen consequences.

(7,811 posts)In the recent past, we (Obama) lost a SCOTUS pick. And we gained another Trump SCOTUS pick by McConnell (aka turtle), bending the same precedence to benefit the RW in both cases.
In one case, "it's too close to the election," and in the second, "it's never too close if we benefit."
We have to stop following the Marquess of Queensberry Rules when the RW party follows alley-fighting ruleswhich means there are no rules!
krkaufman
(13,961 posts)Nothing was bent. McConnell fabricated the not in an election year nonsensical so-called precedent, and then discarded, broke it, as soon as it was convenient.

(3,416 posts)not a single doubt in my mind. If they ever got power again, this country would be a maga cult criminal enterprise, with the worst of the worst all aligned with each other to steal everything they can get their hands on and that includes, stealing from each other. And dont even think of trying to rein them in or hold them to account ..just look what happens to those who try to hold Putin to account .rest in peace Alexei Navalny.

(13,431 posts)I assume the statutes of limitations will prevent further investigation. But it seems once again the Garland bashing has started when in fact the case was closed before Garland and othe DOJ appointees were place and Michael Sherwin who was still there failed (likely purposely) to brief Garland or others on the investigation. It was closed Garland and others did not know about it, Barr and his flunky Sherwin buried it.
So please stop the Garland bashing, he seems to be everybody's punching bag and very few know the details of anything they accuse him of.
