at Bidens's house before it hit the national news that he'd been chosen over Hillary to be the VP.
DU scooped the news.
Do we have anyone here now like that? Anyone live near the VP picks?
I thought she might go with Shapiro, but I'm wondering now if she might go with Walz.
Anyone with some scoop in those neighborhoods?
The anticipation is 🤪

(129,762 posts)But it's always got security vehicles nearby so I doubt Secret Service would be noticed. The same is probably true for the other governors if those states have official residences.

(59,884 posts)The announcement was scheduled for about 4 PM. I also broke it on DU around 8:30 or 9:00 that morning, but I couldnt say at the time how I knew. I got roundly trashed for my post, angry demands of LINK?!?!? and basically the worst drubbing I got on DU until 2016, when the most angry Sanders supporters flooded the board before leaving to JPR.
After the announcement, I got maybe one how did you know? and one apology. Thats it. The LINK?!?!? crowd merely moved on. To be fair to those who had inadvertently informed me 8 hours early, they had never intentionally leaked it, so I kept quiet about it for five years. I figured by then, no one was going to lose their job any more over it.

(59,884 posts)It involved my nephew, who was working for the Texas Democrats in Washington that summer. He has strong Asian features, and used to be somewhat small for his age (18 at the time), but was used to keeping his mouth shut when the occasion warranted. He now works in Kyiv, so that ability still serves him well. Two of Bidens staff were at an indoor swimming pool outside of DC at 6:30 AM. The only other person there, so they thought, was some young Asian kid who, they assumed, understood no English. He immediately perceived their impression of him, played the role they had incorrectly assigned him, and let them babble away freely about what was supposed to be one of the most closely held secrets in the nation. As soon as he got home an hour later, he called me, and I knew it too. That was my link, and I wasnt about to broadcast that all over the internet.
