Saw Rod last year around this time and his concert was my 4th time seeing him. Ive seen him in the 80s, 90s and twice in this century. Hes slowed down a bit but still puts in a great show.

(3,313 posts)I went over to YouTube to see what year...1971 as best I can tell. I saw them play at the Akron Rubber Bowl in the summer of 1972 so this was the same lineup. Love watching Rod with his mic stand.

(8,006 posts)They probably think Rod just sings old, old mellow stuff he didnt write but he was most definitely a rocker in the early 70s, them and the Stones, who are still around amazingly enough.
He may as well have been singing that song to Ronnie Wood cause a couple years later, when the great Mick Taylor quit the Stones, they stole Ronnie away and that was pretty much the end of Rod Stewart and The Faces: nuke:
Went to see Deep Purple way back in maybe 70 and the back up band was The Faces, who I remembered from Itchegoo Park and Some guy named Rod Stewart. My Gawd in Heaven, they literally burned the place down and blew Deep Purple off the stage doing so many encores. Richie was having a bad night after that and a lot of people just split.
This was at Pirates World in south Florida and back then you could bring in anything you wanted to most concerts weed, whatever and they passed the bottle up to Rod Who took a few swigs and one of the guys picked up a J people typically threw on stage.
This type of thing was fairly common back then. I spoke with him years later and he actually remembers that night.
Now theres no bottles allowed and they about strip search you going in and still charge a fortune. Glad I grew up when I did, it was magical, those days.

(3,313 posts)I wasnt out of high school in 72 but saw a bunch of great acts: Stones, Yes, Jefferson Airplane with Popa John Creech on fiddle, a whole summer of concerts! Later we went to Blossom Music Center

(90 posts)Better late than never, but I have not forgotten this:
From The Express (UK), June 2023....
Rod Stewarts wife Penny Lancaster banned him from being friends with Donald Trump
"Veteran rocker Sir Rod Stewart has been banned from being mates with Donald Trump by his wife Penny Lancaster, who has called the former US president a 'disgrace.'
(...snip...)
"Sir Rod used to perform at Mr Trumps casinos and has classed him as a friend for many years, but not any longer if his wife has anything to do with it. [...] He said in 2018: Let me just clear up the situation. Ive known Trump for a long time. Ive done concerts for him in his casinos.
I live probably three-quarters of a mile down the road from him on the beach in Florida. Hes always been extremely nice to me hes let my friends use his golf course for nothing, and Ive had no problems with him at all.
"Is he a great president? Nah. I think his moral compass is way off. But on the other hand the countrys doing extremely well, although I believe part of that was down to president Obama the country was starting to do great anyway, hes just carrying it on.
But well see with the mid-term elections. It does seem like the walls are closing in on my dear friend.

Is that particular one owned by Murdoch?
