I know the rightwing Court has been inventing judicial doctrines out of thin air and corrupting the meaning (once more, the supremes did this before too) of the civil war amendments for some time now

People are, shall we say it? waking up to the fact that some billionaire wanna be inquisitors bought themselves a handful of justices. Six of them admitted wanting those sweet, sweet “gratuities” to start flowing their way.

This court needs to lie low
Have a switch in time that saves 9

and a few USSC clerks as to what the judge was considering.

Sending that bloated wannabe Hitler to prison for essentially a white collar crime was always a long shot, even when that white collar crime was dedicated to suppressing damaging information during an election, raising the level of smarminess. It's still white collar, and that kind of crime has never been taken seriously enough in this country.

Jim Treffinger, the Essex County Executive got a one year sentence in Federal prison.

On April 18, 2002, agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Internal Revenue Service raided Treffinger's county office, carting away boxes of files, computers, and other materials.[18] On October 28, Treffinger was arrested at his house in Verona. U.S. Attorney Chris Christie announced that Treffinger had been charged in a 20-count indictment with extortion, fraud, obstructing a federal investigation and conspiracy. He was released on $100,000 bail.[19][20]

On May 31, 2003, shortly before his trial was scheduled to begin, Treffinger pleaded guilty to one count of obstruction of justice and one count of mail fraud, admitting that he had solicited an illegal $15,000 campaign contribution in exchange for a county contract, and that he had placed two people on the Essex County payroll who instead worked on his 2000 Senate campaign. The remaining counts were dismissed as part of the plea agreement.[21][22] On October 17, he was sentenced to 13 months in prison. Treffinger had sought a lighter sentence, saying he was "a new man, a better man" after converting from Catholicism to Baptism and joining an evangelical Baptist congregation in Bloomfield after his arrest.[23][24][25][26]

But New York made a strong case that the alleged injury wasn't to Missouri, it was really to Trump and, in any event, the injury itself was speculative since no sentence has been handed down yet and might not include imprisonment. And the gag order doesn't prevent Trump from talking about the case.

He knew the idiot would file a mountain of appeals. This way, everything gets worked out before he lays down the sentence. Doing it that way actually means that TSF will be less likely to wriggle free of whatever sentence he gets.

Or it could be that he set the date so far ahead because he was tired of looking at the tangerine toddler and wanted a good long break from him. Who could blame him if that were the case?

One more legal setback for TCF today, this one in Arizona re the fake elector scheme

Jenna Ellis is AZ AG's flipper

https://www.azag.gov/press-release/attorney-general-mayes-announces-cooperation-agreement-fake-electors-case]

PHOENIX – Attorney General Kris Mayes today announced a cooperation agreement with a defendant in the fake electors’ case. Jenna Ellis signed the agreement earlier this morning. The State has agreed to drop the charges against Ms. Ellis in exchange for her cooperation with the prosecution.

"This agreement represents a significant step forward in our case," said Attorney General Mayes. "I am grateful to Ms. Ellis for her cooperation with our investigation and prosecution. Her insights are invaluable and will greatly aid the State in proving its case in court. As I stated when the initial charges were announced, I will not allow American democracy to be undermined – it is far too important. Today’s announcement is a win for the rule of law."

Ms. Ellis had previously been charged with nine felonies including fraud, forgery and conspiracy. The case against the other 17 defendants remains ongoing.

is to me, an act in self preservation. I think they read the tea leaves and it doesn't look good for the chosen one. As the numbers keep coming in, the possibility the Dems could end up in total control is starting to shape up. That prospect, after the Gorsuch veiled threat, and the Alito and Thomas revelations might focus their thoughts on retribution coming down the pike. As for penalty, minimum 3 years, same as Michael Cohen. Leave some room for the sentences in the cases yet to come.

Thinking that if Harris wins the election - then Roberts wants some negotiating room .

I think that the America people are ready for the SC to be reined in… and if we the people get the Senate, House and White House - I think that not only term limits but we will see the removal of some of the Justices. Either by congressional action by impeachment but by legislative acts.

And as Uncle Donny says - hopefully we won’t see people exercising their 2nd Amendment rights.

In George Orwell's "Nineteen Eighty-Four," Room 101 was the place they sent you when you couldn't be broken otherwise. In there was "the thing you feared the most." In Winston Smith's case, Room 101 was full of rats.

The thing Trump fears most is lack of adoration. You could put Trump in a nice clean doublewide trailer inside Sing Sing's perimeter fence - from looking at Google Maps overhead of the facility there are several good places for one - never let anyone in there to worship at his feet, and he'd be thoroughly punished. Even if you gave him a nice little putting green for recreation he'd be punished worse than anything else you could do to him.

Yes, this is an unusual situation, a former President commits crimes like he doesn't care about the law, and it poses difficulties sentencing him because of the secret service protection he requires. Secret service have to go with him wherever he goes anyway, the rest of us don't have that kind of protection and would have to take our chances. We've already resigned ourselves to the fact that our Constitution has been torn up and thrown away by this Supreme Court. Let him serve some jail time, he deserves it. House arrest won't cut it.
