(61,033 posts)That just happens to be political reality. It could affect the race in Mi.

(93,577 posts)the high muslim population is mostly in certain distrcts. But the state has many areas and groups that lean democratic where we can try to get votes.

(35,074 posts)I can't picture it not being him at this point. It would seem a little rude to pick someone else in his home state, wouldn't it? Not to mention, it's a state that we need, and there'd be a risk of pissing off voters there.

(12,011 posts)But yeah, it seems rude if it's not Shapiro. IMO it would have been better to start the tour in a neutral location unless she was already sure.

(69,352 posts)The purpose of this campaign is not to crown a VP. It's to win the White House. I think some folks here may have lost sight of that.
Winning candidates don't choose sites based on the feelings of surrogates.

(69,352 posts)PA is a must-win state and Philadelphia has lots of powerful symbolism. From what I hear, a lot of Pennsylvanians love Shapiro as their governor and won't be "pissed off" that he's not leaving them to be VP.
Whoever the VP pick is, I know Shapiro will be there as host to show full support for Harris.

(1,213 posts)A deke is a hockey term for a player pretending he'll do one thing to draw in the opposition, and then, when they commit to defending against it, the deker does something else entirely.
So Ms Harris could very well be having the rally in PA to make idiots (especially in the media) act like they're oh-so-sure she'll pick Shapiro, but, at the last second, she'll announce someone else.
it's just as likely as thinking the location of a rally means anything.

(20,585 posts)The betting seems to be on Walz now, but I think that would be a mistake.

(20,585 posts)He looks older than he is, and we need a youthful, energetic ticket. Harris/Shapiro would really fill that bill.

(69,352 posts)They're very relieved and happy that Biden ceded to Kamala, and they think it would be strategic for her to choose someone like Walz.

(1,213 posts)Rational thinking is a far better predictor.
We know that some of the youth who are most likely to be politically engaged would find Shapiro an unacceptable choice. I don't agree with their tactics or their simplistic ideas about a complex problem, but alienating a pool of very likely voters doesn't seem like a smart thing.
Michigan could also be in trouble with him on the ticket because he'd probably alienate the Muslim vote there, and they have been the difference between victory and defeat for many a Democratic candidate there.
And knock off the ageist rhetoric about how old he 'looks'--TO YOU. It's ugly, vacuous and unnecessary. Did you say the same thing about Biden when he was the VP choice in 2008? He looked older and was older at the time, so if you didn't have a problem then, you have no leg to stand on with criticizing Walz for it now.

(2,020 posts)My first preference is Buttigieg, but if it can't be him, I would really like Walz as VP. I like that he was a teacher for 20 years. I like the bills he's signed into law as governor. I like his background.
I don't see him being "old" as being a negative necessarily. He's 60, the same age as Kamala. I actually like the idea that eight years from now, that this would more than likely open us up for a full democratic primary, where the younger generation would have a chance to step in and run for president, and voters would get a say.

(1,750 posts)He will be pro-peace, which defends Israel as Biden-Harris work on a peace deal. No one wants Gaza razed to ground. Hamas did attack Israel. Both Hamas and Netanyahu are at fault. Hamas for attacking and Netanyahu for overreacting for his own political reasons. We should stop this pro-Gaza or pro-Israel divisions. We are pro-peace. And we do not want dictatorship in US to oppose Gaza policy. Tlaib should look at the big picture
