General Discussion

there has never been a time when I've seen this enthusiasm and cohesiveness on this board - and with the Party in general, that I can remember.
#1 Thanks is to our President, Joe Biden, for kicking ass in 2020....and then pass the torch to Kamala for 2024....like a couple of Olympic relay runners. Joe will be remembered as maybe the most important President of the 21st Century.
#2 Thanks to Kamala Harris for accepting the Democratic nomination for POTUS. You Madame, are ready to make history. And also....
#3 Thanks for picking Gov. Walz. He is the VP we need in 2025 and beyond.

I had high hopes for Hillary. And she DID win the popular vote. Kamala is a younger sister-in-arms, and Im betting she even wins the Electoral College.
These are exciting times that Im VERY glad and grateful that Im alive to see!

(15,359 posts)the difference. Be a miserable piece of shit working for Trump with the losing, defeat, finger pointing, abuse and suspicion vs kicking ass and taking names for Harris and Walz! Keep it up and we can't lose.

(18,258 posts)But this time, the country is going to be ready for it. He had the advantage of surprise when he refused to concede in 2020, but in 2024, we'll all be expecting it.
I think the Orange Hellbeast is going to be taken aback by the reaction he gets this time. Instead of people gasping and going "What did I just hear?" when he claims he won, he'll get eyerolls and "Sure, Don."
We've all seen this movie before, and we know how it ends. He won't be able to control the narrative this time.
OAITW r.2.0
(27,663 posts)Obviously, as leader, he failed. He's not President this time. And I imagine Joe Biden has "0" fucks to give to Donald Trump's Loser-Pa-Loser. The reaction to folks not accepting the results of the election outcome won't be getting support from the WH.
ShazzieB
(18,258 posts)Joe controls the levers of power this time, and I'm sure he's going to be ready to respond appropriately. Probably already making plans.
I am seriously not worried. Whatever Cheetoh tries, the country will be ready for it.

(1,824 posts)Born with more money than most people earn in our whole lives, he never heard "no", never had to learn the experience of people resisting him or his ideas. And because of his unusual psychiatric problems he didn't have the insight to understand that people were not agreeing with him, not respecting him, but agreeing with and respecting his money.
And this orange cancer metastasized throughput the Republican party because their corpulent moral rot provided the ideal substrate.
The Republicans opened their gates to this cancerous Trojan horse and welcomed him in. Let's hope that the collapse of the Republican party leaves them unable to exert significant control over anything until they affirm that their most supreme principle is a commitment to democracy.

(5,230 posts)am thrilled at how wrong I was believing this could not happen, that if Joe dropped out we were doomed. But the despair was a gut fear that we wouldnt win, that we could not recover from the debate and lack of enthusiasm.
When he withdrew I sent a screenshot to a couple of friends with f*** - because I thought was were screwed. First reaction back was not thinking Kamala could win, that it would all be divisive, but then there was
an explosion! A tsunami! Hope! Joy!
A memory for the ages.

(10,611 posts)My first was fug... but then I had been listening to young voters too long that I was relieved he stepped out and watched what Sunday, them roll it out and so so so impressed. I had friends like you upset and I was sending htem all the upbeat and positive cause I wanted them excited not upset. It truly was a once in a lifetime
And now.... youth got what they want and they are beholden to get their ass out to vote and bring a friend.
It seems to me some thanks are due and maybe some apologies too
To the Dem leaders, donors and representatives who were recommending JB step aside
A lot of them were thrown under the bus by more than a few DUers
Thanks for the heads up and sorry for the harsh words

(27,663 posts)when word came down that Joe was not going to run, I was pissed for like 15 minutes. Personally, I think Joe Biden would have kicked Trump's ass for a 2nd time. But this move to Harris was brilliant and obviously has energized the Democratic Party to a point I haven't seen since Obama. So, let it shine!
There is a lesson in all of this. Folks are allowed to have a difference of opinion. Without being thrown under the bus, called all sorts of untrue names, and having posts removed.
Or at least they should be allowed in an open discussion forum
Especially when it turns out to be the right thing for our country
Think about it

(101,352 posts)Like I'd rather chew glass than watch 5 minutes of fucking Trump barf his brain while Fox News fawns over him like he's the supreme ruler of the world.
Now I'm loving watching Kamala kick ass and take names, while Trump nominates the weirdest and most awkward guy in the United States, surrounds himself with neo Nazis and ass kissers, and his campaign is crashing and burning.
Pass the popcorn. It's going to be fun watching MAGA and Fox self destruct.

(10,414 posts)There is a vibe about this situation.
This is different.
The quiet resolve and unity is not really getting noticed or observed in the media that much but I'm really feeling it.
I think we collectively realize what is at stake.
There seem to be a lot more people responding positively to Dem positions on social media.
I was on social media for most of the day pounding away.
I feel that if I don't give it everything I've got, I won't forgive myself if we lose ... and then, I cycle on "we cannot lose - try harder!!"

(6,845 posts)And I do mean that somewhat literally.
The legislature he got passed will benefit America for decades to come. Roads, bridges, schools, wind, solar, charging stations, batteries, computer chips, cheaper meds. None of that is glamorous. It's easy to even overlook the importance of it. But he put his head down and did the hard part of turning all the lights back on.
He and I are about the same age. Where he has found the energy for all of it baffles me. He's incredible to say the least.
The hand off is perfection. The timing after the RNC is pure genius.

(24,270 posts)birtherism, and racism that incessantly tried to drive us down us during his candidacy and presidency. Obama was a low-key, thoughtful, brilliant speaker, and true progressive, who was the perfect antidote for the George W. Bush years. Kamala Harris is energetic, sharp, and exactly what we all need at this moment in time. Biden helped get us back on track after the disaster of Tump's term, and Harris will take us into the future beyond the nightmare of Trump and his cult of racist, misogynistic, theocratic, fascists.

(91,416 posts)Joe was pushed to step aside, for a little more than 15 minutes but I was thrilled that Harris is the nominee since I would have voted for her in the primary had she still been on the ballot by the time we got to vote in June.
As for the energy, wow, I don't think we had this for Obama, not this jubilant. There was a lot of uncertainty about the first possible black president, this time, we are not going back AND we're not going to waste a lot of time looking back either.
Glad to see this ticket and the enthusiasm, people are tired of doom and gloom, fear and loathing, they want something more positive. It's hard, if not impossible, to move forward without a positive attitude. These two candidates glow with it and everyone is there to bask in it.
So, let's go win this thing.
Possibility abounds if we elect these two and a complement of like minded Congress members.

(27,663 posts)we had yet to deal with this sellout that is an ongoing national security risk. He owns the Party now' .and they are all in on destroying our Democracy. So, I do think there is greater positive energy that is braced with a general sense of urgency not to let Trump happen again..

(55,334 posts)Things will get ugly soon enough, probably right after the convention.
We will be dealing with a cornered, rabid creature. Being down in the "fake" polls will turn some of them violent. Trump's increasingly hysterical language will trigger others. There will be blood.
There will be stepped up efforts at voter suppression, voter intimidation, and harassment of poll workers--some of it from Republican officials which been elected to oversee the "fair" election process.
This so far may be the kookiest election in my life time, but it's also like to be the most violent too
