In the 2 1/2 weeks (yes, thats all the time that has passed) since Bidens announcement, its unbelievable to me that the following has happened:
1. Democrats completely stole the Republicans thunder after their convention and the attempt on Trumps life. Who can even remember the Republican convention now?
2. The media was completely caught off guard. They had been salivating for 3 years about reporting on poor Bidens dementia, and all of that was completely ripped out from under them. Not being able to drag down Biden any more, they actually started reporting on Trumps deficiencies.
3. The doom-and-gloom that is all too common in the Democratic Party was totally swept away. I have seen an energized, united party in a way that I didnt think was possible. The excitement and the unbelievable fundraising is wonderful to see.
4. Maybe most importantly, Trump has been pushed off the front page. He has spent so much time concentrating on Biden that he is now flailing and rage tweeting like never before, and his racism and misogyny are more apparent than ever. The mask has been ripped off completely, and we can really see clearly that the emperor has no clothes. It is glorious!
5. Republican politicians, pundits, and loudmouths literally cant get their acts together. They have allowed the Democrats to set the narrative, and they havent found any effective pushback.
Am I dreaming? Can this really be happening? The positive energy of the Democrats is contagious, and we havent even had our convention yet. The Dem convention will be a celebration of Biden and a joyous passing of the torch. All the republicans have is doom, gloom, hatred, and fear.
May it continue until November 5!!

(24,510 posts)I think Biden dropping out just energized the country. People who were dejected for so long because of Trump are now energized. Its been perfectly played since that day by a united Democratic Party and I dont think Republicans have a clue what to do about it. And this is a movement right now that is exploding and picking up steam.
The messaging is perfect. Harris has been pitch perfect. Walz is the perfect choice and is going to take middle America by storm. I dont think Republicans have any idea how big this is going to get.

Yeah, the excitement level reminds me so much of 2008, and the joy I felt when Obama was elected.

(24,510 posts)Not even with Obama. Its more energy than Ive seen in any election. And it feels like the party is more united than I have ever imagined and the independents are jumping on board.
This is unprecedented. Never been anything like this.

I haven't been over to the office since Saturday but I am sure the Walz announcement has just geared things up even more.
It would be awesome to see Texas go for Harris-Walz, but my real dream outcome is defeating Cruz.

(4,346 posts)I'd begun to doubt my favorite MLK quote was going to come true anytime soon. "The arc of the moral universe is long, and it bends toward justice."
These series of circumstances and events each seem unlikely, but together? With our dear but frequently disorganized Dems so often on different pages from each other? The outpouring of both joy and unity is, yes, a miracle.

(1,056 posts)Think about all of these events that happened. The awful debate and the fallout. The news story that simply would not go away no matter how much we tried to make it go away. The assassination attempt, The convention, and then maybe with the JD Vance pick things started to turn around.
It is amazing to think of where we are now! So much energy and excitement to build on. Less than 100 days left.

(1,213 posts)But whoever wrote it didn't know much about astronomy or even astrology. The astronomical positions aren't rare at all. Jupiter and Mars align approximately every 12-18 months. The Moon is in the 7th house (on the western horizon) every single day.
Don't get me started on how astrology is so much bunkum.
But the other lyrics are on the right track about how it will be a good day when we have harmony, understanding, the mind's true liberation and etc.

(11,439 posts)Astrology was just one of the pop culture constructs predicting that humanity would experience a paradigm shift to reach a better future. The idea that we were on the cusp of a kind of fundamental expansion of our consciousness as a species permeated everything in that time period.
The song has a celebratory quality that is catchy and positive with great harmonies, so it was a big hit. The 5th Dimension had a lot of them. We sang it in 8th and 9th grade Chorus; it's fun to sing and uplifting, too. But I'm discovering it's still a difficult earworm to lose!
And that was kind of my point, anyway. This is more than an election. The stars seem to be aligning for us and that's a really good thing for the nation AND the world. I don't believe in astrology - although I am a Gemini, so ask me tomorrow
- but the sentiments and that feeling of seeing an amazing future on the horizon, the anticipation and excitement? The song expresses it and I feel it now.
I think it would be a great song for the campaign pllaylist.

(37,518 posts)I knew that Donald et al hated women. But the fact that they wrote a whole book about completely decimating the government and taking away rights just shows how seriously evil and deranged they are. I think we all know how critical this election is, so we can put aside trivial details to get it done.

(313 posts)And a point I'd like to make in a more general sense is this: Three months is WAY more than enough time to run a presidential campaign. Other democracies limit campaigning to a few months or even a few weeks while we in the US continue to waste tens of millions of dollars with years-long campaigns that nobody pays much attention to until about now anyway. Once Kamala and Tim are in office, they should lead an election reform effort that would limit presidential campaigns to three months.
If President Biden had announced a year or two ago that he would not seek re-election, it's highly unlikely we'd be experiencing this tremendous swell of optimism right now. It has been said that "Timing is everything," and that's pretty much true of just about everything you can think of. It's certainly true of politics, and it appears that the timing for the Democrats could not have been better.
