Let's assume that the Harris-Walz ticket wins 2 terms and no other Democratic contender throws their hat in the ring until 2032 at the earliest (assuming they're willing to challenge Walz).
Buttigieg is currently 42
Beshear is 46
Shapiro is 51
Whitmer is 52
Newsom is 56
Pritzker is 59
Kelly is 60
Cooper is 67
Now add 8 years to those ages. Some will still be plenty young, others not as much. Was this year the best chance for many of these candidates?
Lots are currently sitting in top positions (Governor, Senator) or term limited - where do they go from here?

(1,427 posts)Im sure those turned down for VP were asked about consolation prizes in the Harris administration. Cabinet positions, ambassadors, agency heads .

(130,572 posts)So 2032 would be wide open. It's impossible to predict which, if any of them, might still be in the running. Shapiro and Buttigieg seem likely, maybe Newsom. Others we don't know just yet might come out of the woodwork, like Obama did in 2004.

(10,107 posts)Most likely hell be re-elected in 2026 and then term-limited. In a good position to run for president in 2032.
