'Vote stealing in plain sight': Ethics expert sounds the alarm on Georgia election board - RawstoryThe Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Tuesday that the Trump-endorsed board is trying to change rules for the certification of the results.
The report explained that the three officials were involved in a "possibly illegal meeting where they approved two new election rules suggested to them directly by Georgia GOP chair Josh McKoon, who (along with the three officials) was also praised by Trump" during his rally on Saturday.
The Trump-backed majority will consider 15 changes, one of which would require "reasonable inquiry" before any county approves an election.

"They're laying the foundation to do it again": Maddow details GOP plan to undermine 2024 election - Salon.com
"Republicans pioneered this in Michigan in 2020," Maddow said, speaking about Trump's pressuring of GOP officials to not sign a certification of the 2020 presidential election.
"Now Republicans have kept trying this thing in every election since," she added, citing a recent report from Democracy Docket, Elias' voting rights advocacy group, that officials in at least 10 counties have now refused to certify accurate election results. Republicans in Pennsylvania and Arizona also attempted to block the certification of the general election results outright.
"They're laying the foundation to do it again, in the next national election," Maddow said, noting how Trump at a Georgia rally last weekend "randomly" shouted out the names of three members of the Georgia state board of elections. "Those three officials have all refused to acknowledge that Joe Biden won the 2020 presidential election," Maddow clarified. "They are now trying to push through new rules that would make it easier for county-level officials to refuse to certify election results."

(10,990 posts)actively engaged in planning and staging a government takeover! I dont get why they are allowed to continue with what they are trying to do. What is the law around such un-American activity ? Seems to me they should be arrested for what they are doing.
Who are they really working for? The MAGA Party? Putin? China?

(22,456 posts)I hope everyone realizes that this Georgia situation is only the tip of the iceberg, this is just the one "mini-coup" that we happen to know about, the rightwingers have many, many more in the works.
Their hope is to create so much chaos around the November election that the true results will not matter.

(8,659 posts)Cousin of mine told me of THOUSANDS of names published in her county's local newspaper, pages and pages of "inactive voters" - names so small one would need a frkng magnifier to read them.
I'm guessing this is what MAGA's consider "official notice."

Thousands of voter challenges rejected in Georgia over faulty data - Raw Story
The Cobb County Board of Elections and Registration dismissed an attempt Saturday to cancel the registrations of 2,472 voters challenged by local conservative activist Eugene Williams using software from the Republican-backed company EagleAI to identify voters who may have moved, reported the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Williams has previously challenged thousands of registrations using the database to find voters without an identifiable address, and the state's Republican legislature passed a new law that went into effect July 1 to give private citizens even more power to challenge voter eligibility.

(7,865 posts)that the coup never stopped. Jan 6 was only one part... A part that failed. There were other moving parts even while it was going on, like the fake electors. They won't stop until the are stopped by the public and by the legal system. Problem is, as I see it, is that democrats and most normal people can't think like they do. Down that far into the gutter is not a usual place for us. Second, the minions want... and the oligarchy doesn't care about... a civil war. They think the normal 3/4 of the country will just shrug shoulders and say what can you do? They don't realize we feel stronger about retaining our freedoms and our democracy than they feel towards tearing it down. They only think the Watts riots were bad. Wait until they actually start shooting demonstrators and see the country catch fire. I hated the movie Red Dawn, but there are a lot of us who've been thru counter terrorism training, as well as actually fought it. And what are these enemies within but terrorists? The public will have its say... I just don't have trust in the legal system any longer. But when protests and fighting gets bad enough it starts to effect the oligarchs' bottom lines, I'd lay odds on which side wins.
But IMO, if we make it absolutely clear at the start of the cheat I'd bet they back down like any other bully. But its gonna take someone like Marc Elias to get a head on these state changes. SCOTUS doesn't get involved in state laws, so this would be at state Supreme court. Not all of them have been taken over by magas.
Meanwhile, something has to be done about treasonous Old Don. I'm sorry now that was only a piece of plastic that grazed his ear... if indeed it even did. He must be made to pay for his crimes against the people and the country... and for his crimes against humanity in the things he did to immigrants and their children. I include his congressional lackeys, too.
One thought I just had... All these independent repubs on our side could turn ally in helping to contain Trump and electoral damage, if they would. They're much more familiar with repub tricks than we are. I guess we'll see how badly they want to keep democracy.
