He's letting JD "shadow" or as I like to call it, stalk, Harris and Walz around the country. JD's appearances are lame and dishonest, but also boring and lack any charisma. Meanwhile the top of the R ticket golfs.
This is not normal. We are in the last 90 something days of the election. They are not ahead anymore. The momentum is on the Dems' side and has been for a couple of weeks now.

(6,004 posts)My guess is the latter. He needs adoring crowds and it's not happening for him anymore. That's why they're booking him in places like Montana. Next stop will probably be somewhere in Alabama or Kentucky or some other safely red place. Just to fill the venue and make him feel good. Otherwise he'll go on nightly unhinged rants.

His tweets seem to confirm this theory.
It makes sense.
A presidential campaign is a brutal endeavor for the healthy.
Trump is elderly, mentally ill, drug addicted, and in poor physical condition.
He has had a difficult year with all his criminal activities catching up with him legally.
And he was obviously hit hard by the Dem ticket changing.
He probably has siphoned off most of his campaign budget and he is
rigid and inflexible, so he is at a total loss.

(2,660 posts)I can see several possibilities, but as to which is correct (if any of them) is anybody's guess.
* He's trying to figure out a strategy, and it's easier to strategize when you're not going from venue to venue.
* He's going to let the media continue to hammer at Harris / Walz and see what, if anything sticks.
* He's receiving instructions from the mothership (Putin, Musk, Heritage, not really sure at this point who owns his chit this week).
* He's exhausted and resting before going back to the grind, since he'll have to compete with the Dems for airtime through August.
* He has come to the conclusion that the optics from doing rallies is just not looking good, but doesn't know what to do next.
* He has decided that he's better off ranting on Truth Social.
* He (and the RNC) is broke, and he's desperately trying to come up with new NFTs to make up the difference.

Hes scheming to overturn the election, not to win it.
Metaphorical
(2,660 posts)Not that I don't put it past him, but he's making some AWFULLY big assumptions about how far he can tilt the scales, especially since he's VERY dependent upon the courts to side with him, and historically his luck there has not been great. The GOP's ability to ratfuck systems have as much to do with their unexpected nature than anything, and frankly at this point, everyone is EXPECTING them to cheat. That makes it MUCH harder to run a con.
spooky3
(38,860 posts)So why would you expect him to make sense?
RobinA
(10,478 posts)to disagree here. He has been successful in life, by his measurement. Rich, glitzy buildings across the world, airplane at his command, can pretty much do what he wants and people kowtow. Even became President of the United States. Unfortunately, what formerly worked for him is now not working quite as well (or at all) with all current evidence saying that he's headed for the weeds. Now imagine you are him, everything that has worked for you all your life suddenly is useless. You've got a set of metric wrenches and a Ford to fix. And you aren't very creative when it comes to problem solving. He's suddenly a no handed paper hanger. At his age he is unlikely to be able to switch strategies, so he's pretty damn stuck. Which is not good for the old guy's stress level and ability to remain in his created reality.

(2,010 posts)And expects the supreme Court to install him.
It won't work.
They (tfg and GOPQ) plan to cheat on multiple fronts.
It won't work.
He is assuming it will be a close election, and it will not.
It will be a landslide, a blue tsunami, so even if some states override their electors or suppress votes Harris and Walz will still win.
I'm convinced he's planning to take this to the courts.
As you said, his track record with courts ruling in his favor is not good, but he still expects to be successful, despite his many losses and failures.

Im being as blunt as I need to be: He is fully expecting the swing states to not certify the election & he is going to try & take this to his gerrymandered SCOTUS to install him as president.
And, he may be hoping that the vote will be questioned and the election will be thrown to the House to vote, which is Republican-controlled.

He thinks he can boost that POS, Sheehy, because he's tanking like a lead balloon. Have to remember that half the state would have to show up to fill that stadium... we're pretty spread out. He'll have to bus in some extras from Idaho.
He also came to hit up a couple - few magat billionaires like Daines, gov. body-slammer and whomever has a big trophy ranch nearby, plenty to choose from.
BUT
Here's a little something I would like to relate, Bozeman is at roughly 5K elevation (4813) and if he goes to any fancy homes, he'll go higher. Someone of his age, weight and health might have a hard time adjusting to elevation while here. It's real common for folks who spend most of their lives within the sea level to 500ft elevation range and make a 3000+ elevation climb for several hours to have serious health problems in the first 48 hours.

He will blame or already has blamed his henchmen for his downfall.

If Trump has any semblance of a brain left and has not completely lost contact with reality, he must know that hes almost out of options. Even the Supreme Court can see the handwriting on the wall. I would expect to see him attempt to flee to any country that will take him (and house him in luxury). Whether he will be caught and thwarted has yet to be determined.

I do think it's probably difficult for him to stand on a stage, the heat, and riff incoherently for two hours. He's made comments recently during these that allude to the heat. I used to pray for a presidential aneurysm.
