(53,386 posts)the loss of Barney Frank means no gay ranking members. We also lost Baldwin who was the only other gay member with significant senority. It will be a decade or more before we see a gay chair or ranking member. Still, we have an impressive diversity.

(10,942 posts)I don't know of any other gay or bisexual members of the incoming Congress.

(53,386 posts)but we took a major hit on seniority. Frank had nearly 30 years, while Baldwin had 16. Our current top member has 4. It will be a very long time before we see a LGBT chair or ranking member. On the plus side if Baldwin can win a second Senate term she can quite likely become the chair of at least a decent sub committee.

(2,567 posts)He's not Tammy Baldwin or Barney Frank, and honestly, I doubt he ever will be. I could be proven wrong, though.

(30,262 posts)I still believe in Martin Luther King's vision of judging someone "not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."
Congrats to the Dems in the 113th Congress. Work hard, and remember whose side you're on.

(75,480 posts)Much, much better than the Republicans but we still have a ways to go. Half those committees should be lead by women. Hell half of Congress should be women, then we would have true representation by gender at least.
And i want a pole!
but seriously, until we are represented by 50 percent women, it's truly not representative government. Greater economic diversity would be great too.

(241 posts)This is NOT America. I only count 7 women out of 22 spots. And here I thought women make up at least 50% of the population. Seems we are still a little behind here. Yes, we are so much more ahead than the Republicans. Yeah us. Sorry. I will not be excited until Congress, the Senate and every fucking committee is at least 50% women. THAT is fucking America.

(12,882 posts)I know you were being serious, but as I read your post I was moved to giggle a bit. Heck, I wasn't even aware there was a "fucking committee"! I'd sure like to be in attendance (as an observer, of course) when they convene.
Get your panties out of a wad...Change isn't spontaneous you know.
