https://www.rawstory.com/kamala-harris-cooking-fox-news/Fox News hosts expressed dismay Friday over the fact that Vice President Kamala Harris likes to cook and their outrage sparked immediate mockery.
Host Julie Banderas complained about cooking videos Harris has starred in: "First of all, that's not doing women any favors,"
"Yes, it would be amazing to have a woman in the White House one day. That would be a huge glass ceiling shattered," Banderas added
"But I don't want to hear about a White House, uh, president cooking," she said as her fellow hosts laughed. "And especially a woman! I don't cook! And I proudly wear that badge. I am not domesticated whatsoever."
As she spoke, photos of Harris and her husband Doug Emhoff smiling in the kitchen appeared on screen.
GAWD, I hope she doesn't wear a brown pantsuit!

(47,940 posts)The host joked at the time about having the first woman president in her kitchen. It was delightful. Doug wasn't in it.

(38,639 posts)Cooking is one of the ways of expressing love for those you are cooking for (including yourself, if that is who you are cooking for).
Even when I was working 80-100 hours a week, I still took time to cook for my self - and for my students. Forfeiting that would have been a step too far (even though putting in an ungodly number of hours was not). When you stop doing what feeds you (literally or figuratively), you are existing, not living.
Not to mention that putting something off limits BECAUSE she is a woman is misogynistic, whether that something is part of a traditional "woman's" role or something less traditional - like being president.

(2,369 posts)I'd imagine an attack on somebody's hot dish is an assault on their character and an insult th the entire upper Midwest to boot. My impression of Governor Walz is that he'd push back with some righteously blunt language!

(11,222 posts)I hate cooking too and all my men are terrific cooks. And still, if anyone enjoys do. Swift is a HUGE success and business woman AND likes to cook.
This is a slap in the face to all the people whining that women belong in kitchen, old school whatever yada yada, their very base.

(2,634 posts)I have two twenty something daughters. They are heavy into social media crafting videos - especially cooking - and both are competent cooks (better than their dad (me), who usually can make some mean tacos, but still burns eggs even when he boils them).
There's a key point, though, that I think Trump is completely incapable of understanding. Those cooking, sewing, gardening, crafting, etc., videos are hugely popular, not just among the female 18-29 set but in general, male and female, young and increasingly older. Even when what they are cooking doesn't go as planned (and this is a given), they are entertaining and provide a lot of credibility and authenticity to the people featured in those videos.
The word authentic is perhaps one of the most important characteristics that Kamala has. If there is a word that describes Trump, it's FAKE. He is a fake millionaire with a fake tan and fake hair, pushing a fake narrative for a fake campaign with fake followers he has to pay for (a lot like prostitutes, but generally uglier). He can't actually win the election so he has to fake a win. He always gives fake numbers and fake speeches spewing fake facts. He has a fake vice president who faked his own history, and has been in three fake marriages with three highly fake models. He faked his own bone spurs in College to avoid going to Vietnam, and he has a fake degree that was purchased by his father just to make him graduate. He even fakes his golf score.
That's what is freaking him out so much now. It's becoming obvious that his fakery is becoming exposed in ways that he no longer knows how to control, because it is being compared to authentic human beings. Kamala isn't a fake newscaster or a fake politician, nor is Tim Walz. They are both real people, and that authenticity is palpable. This is why he's having so much trouble impugning either one of their records - the attacks just do not accord with what we see of the two, and the attempts are just making Trump look even more pathetic in the process.

(1,213 posts)I don't recall any feminist saying that it's demeaning to cook. Only that it's demeaning if you are stuck with cooking at home because you're not allowed to do anything but housework.
I spent all of my working life cooking every day. Just like my MD mother did. I wasn't always married, and I had to eat. It was cook or waste money eating out when I was single, which I'm sure Kamala can relate to. She and I obviously chose to cook.
Later, as a single mom, the kid had to eat, too, and it was cook or eat out. I chose not to waste money on junk food, and cooked for us.
Do they propose that we starve instead?

(81,266 posts)We could stay home and cook and take care of kids.
Or go to work.
Or both.
It was about what we wanted to do.
Not what the patriarchy told us we had to do.
