During the primary season leading up to the 2020 election, I saw Kamala Harris twice. Once in an auditorium at a community college shortly after she announced her candidacy. There were about 500 people there. A few months later, I saw her again at a State Fair, wearing converse sneakers of course!
She is a very different woman today. Four years ago there was hesitancy that is hard to describe. At the first venue she was of course friendly, took photos with everyone, and laughed at her own jokes. But it was like watching a student not quite confident enough to speak up in class. The extrovert personality was certainly there, but she was guarded.
She has learned a lot hanging around Joe Biden. I think she learned that it was ok to be just who she is and not worry about who likes you. For people who saw her in that first run for the presidency, I am certain they see the same change that I do.
I was all in for Mayor Pete back then. But now, Kamala has stolen my heart!

(8,251 posts)Say that this is the Kamala they know. One even mentioned that she likes to cuss. Lol 😆
Perhaps her handlers wanted her to tone down her approach to not get stuck with angry black woman label. Its all too common for us black women to be labeled as aggressive or angry when we are being assertive.

(198 posts)And Democratic voters certainly showed they welcomed her candidacy. Jubilant crowds have the effect of giving you a shot in the arm and I think she's riding that...hopefully all the way into the presidency.
