(5,545 posts)Midwest, but I knew that they had corn fields for miles. I just assumed that up there they ate tamales that way. I had heard that the food there wasn't very good and I thought that I understood why.

I have to confess that I fit the stereotype & am not real fond of spicey food, but I know many people (my late mother included) who are.

The more spice, the better! I want to see fire coming out of my mouth when I eat Mexican food.
My stomach, on the other hand . . . hates me.

Can't tolerate spicy food myself, so I simpathize, and I don't mind a little ribbing about it if it's all in fun.

Capsaicin binds to fat and when it's in the bound state, it's a lot tamer.

(12,717 posts)Hubs and I were in the Cayman Islands a few years back, and got jerk chicken sandwiches from a food truck. The owner asked us if we wanted our chicken mild or spicy. I responded "white person spicy." She hesitated, then burst out laughing. Ever since then, we refer to mild anything as "white person spicy."
I still like spicy food, but as I'm getting older, I'm finding that it doesn't like me so much.
