I live in a purple area of a red state.
Most people that I see wearing anything political on their bodies, their cars, or in their yards are pro Trump.
Ive thought a lot about this as to why.
But its simple.
When I ask other Democrats why they dont show their support publicly, they all say the same thing.
Theyre afraid.
They think that many Trumpers are crazy enough to possibly damage their cars and homes and confront them in a negative way.
Apparently, if being honest, Ive thought that too.
But, no more!
I have just purchased pro Harris/Walz yard signs, bumper stickers, tshirts, and caps. 🧢
If someone damages my house, car, or body, I have insurance to cover all three.
Im just sick and tired of being frightened by these lunatic arsehole moronic cult members.
Anybody else feel the same?

(10,610 posts)I decided I was not only having conversations, I as outwardly expressing my position as a Democrat. I was concerned it might affect him and that would not be fair, but he was good with it. It really was accepted too, inevitably there was nothing to fear letting everyone know I was a Democrat. That was the first yr I put up signs and learned it was ok and not to worry about repercussions. Then I got free and moved to Oregon, lol and I do not need to put up signs or have stickers now.

(32,313 posts)Mainly a bumper sticker which I wouldnt put on a car anyway because of how hard it is to get off without damaging the bumper or the paint but Im almost certain my car would be vandalized and I live in an area that is easily 60/40 liberal versus right wing scum.
But it doesnt take large populations of them to become a problem as we all know. I do however daily wear shirts that are Black Lives Matter or ones that say science is real and you should be able to love who you want to love and all very obvious very liberal stuff.
For instance I am not Gay but I am a huge supporter of LGBTQ and I wear rainbow socks all the time and rainbow shirts.
We are out of time, the scumbags have no intention of actually winning the election they are simply not going to send in the votes or allow the votes or theyre going to have the states decide etc. I sure hope as fuck people are prepared for this because the only way to stop it is to convince them before they do it that our reaction will be more than carrying protest signs

(6,007 posts)It is part of their brainwashing. They are convinced that we are all simpering milquetoasts who will just fall apart if we have to actually defend ourselves.
When I was in high school I had someone decide that I was like that. After they ended up through their drivers side window (it was closed at the time), they decided that I was not the easy target they thought I was. I made be gay, but I also was raised on a farm and played football all through middle and through the tenth grade in high school. That other boy was a 'city slicker' who had really never been outside of the urban/suburban areas and certainly never had to actually work for a living, much less survival.
He got in one solid hit. Good for him.

Well, yesterday at the supermarket I heard him telling some other tool that if Harris kept getting good press, it might be gun time.
I stopped and said "Do you guys know how to make a Molotov Cocktail that doesn't require a fuse? No? Well, I do."
And I just walked away letting them stew over what that meant.

He said something about not being too worried. I replied that libs have guns too. He said something about not being worried about a little pellet gun. I replied that my 12 gauge shoots more than pellets. He just stared.

But every once in a while, I have someone go out of their way to tell me they are glad to see my signs or flag.
We do what we can do.

(4 posts)It still would not be safe for me to put up Harris-Walz yard signs. This state is the Trump cult epicenter. The best thing though is there is zero Trump yard signs or flags in my community now. They were all over before, so that is somewhat encouraging even though Trump will easily win Alabama. I am contributing as much as I can to Harris-Walz which is more productive for them than putting up yard signs in this state.

(4 posts)Eliot. The flags were getting real tattered and the yard signs had faded and they just werent replaced. I guess they figure Trump has it in the bag . I think they have a big surprise coming
summer_in_TX
(3,083 posts)After all, they probably think, Trump is already known everywhere. Signs are to raise name awareness for unknown candidates.
I was a precinct chair as well as chair of a Democratic club in a red town/purple county in Texas in 2008. One of our Obama supporters had their car window broken using an Obama yardsign on a wooden stake. Signs were stolen and removed, and one of the big ones we had up was vandalized with a big hole cut out.
The photo of the car with the stake sticking out of the window was dramatic. We are in the county where the Biden-Harris campaign bus was forced off of the road by a Trump convoy. I no longer put signs in my yard, even for down-ballot Dems.

(118,615 posts)fig about their intimidation tactics, and tell them off whenever I encounter them. For some reason, this little old childfree/childless cat lady scares the bloody hell out of people. I know that puts me in an odd category, but I make use of it as necessary.
One example: Years ago, I was helping an older friend pack and move from a very bad situation, not an abusive spouse, an abusive landlord who was terrorizing the tenants. I explained to him that his behaviour could not go on without consequences. He called the police, and told them he feared for his life because I had threatened him. The guy was 6'6 and weighed over 300. A young officer responded, and almost couldn't stop laughing as I explained the situation to him. He suggested that perhaps I could refrain from interacting with the bully, and I assured him I would do so. I did not, however, say anything about all the agencies I called in to deal with him.

(118,615 posts)come out of the box this way. I challenged the teachers (including nuns) in elementary school. I challenged the teachers, the principal, and the school board when I was in high school. In college during the anti-war years, I challenged the suits. When I was nearly mugged in Detroit in 1971, I was annoyed and pissed, thinking about how damned annoying and inconvenient it was going to be, having to replace all my ID. When one of the would-be muggers touched me, I screamed so loud and high-pitched that the neighbors (the would-be mugging occurred right in front of the house where I was visiting friends) ran out, thinking two animals were fighting. The idiots ran off. I have received multiple death threats as a feminist activist. One of my favourite, more recent threats, was a guy swearing that if he ever encountered a Biden voter, he would punch him in the face. I calmly said, "Here I am, do it." He didn't.
Different friends have commented over the years, "Do you have any idea how intimidating you look when you are out in public?", and, "Do you know you have on your "Do NOT even THINK about fucking with me face?".
Can it be taught? I truly do not know. Apparently, I was born a do-not-give-a-shit BIT*H. Why, I have absolutely no idea. One of the songs from "SUFFS" seems to have been created for me, "Great American Bitch". LOVE IT!!@

Lawn signs? Yes! We have other "yard flags" that show where our politics are, and campaign signs go up every time.
Bumper stickers? Only if the cars stayed parked! (They don't.) We live in a metro area of diverse opinions where people can and do flip out on roads (if only because they didn't like the way you changed lanes, but also on occasion, because they object to a Democratic bumper sticker).

(2,268 posts)I had my Obama signs stolen as soon as I put them up, so I built 2 x 2 wood frames for them and painted the frame black. After I put the sign in the ground, I thick coated the frame with roofing tar - the kind that won't wash out of anything. I only lost 2 of them, then the thefts stopped. I happened to over hear a guy asking a car parts guy how to get tar off a steering wheel.
I heard of a guy who wired a cattle fence charger to his signs - I thought that was pretty clever..
But you should get a wildlife camera, or a ring, and post photos of people attacking your property or signs.

(14,586 posts)or advertise it for months on our cars and lawns. Speaking as an old-timer, traditionally most Americans only expressed political affiliation (if any at all) during the month or so prior to elections, with many just wearing a lapel button and maybe a yard sign and bumper sticker.
Much like the commercialization of Christmas, I think we've fallen for a political industry that makes many millions selling Americans all this shit, including ball caps and things that abuse our Flag. TV and internet saturation with politics for months on end has gotten way out of hand, too. Simply put, this change in our society is clearly a product of the right wing's thirst for power at any cost.
