What JD Vance did in Iraq, as told by the friend who served with him

JD Vance sparked a firestorm this week when he accused fellow veteran and Democratic vice presidential nominee, Minnesota governor Tim Walz, of abandoning his unit before it deployed to Iraq.

“When the United States Marine Corps … asked me to go to Iraq to serve my country, I did it,” Vance told reporters. “When Tim Walz was asked by his country to go to Iraq … he dropped out of the army and allowed his unit to go without him.”

Democrats were quick to hit back at the claim, pointing out that Walz filed to run for Congress and officially retired from the Minnesota National Guard months before his unit was alerted about deployment. But Vance’s criticism of his opponent’s record has drawn greater scrutiny of his own time as a “combat correspondent” in the Marine Corps, a role that involves gathering news and writing articles for internal Marine Corps publications and facilitating interviews and access for civilian media.

Following his attacks on Walz, some Democratic critics gave him the disparaging nickname ‘Sergeant Scribbles” because of the clerical nature of his assignment.

The invasion started on 20 March 2003, without a declaration of war.

His government papers say honorable discharge.

Lying about another vet should get him thrown out of office.

The different branches are so varied in how they handle ranks that you need someone who served in the branch to explain it, like how I can explain how E4 worked when I served, oh-so-long ago in the USAF. I vaguely recall that the Marines have a weird thing with corporals and specialists as E4, but I'm not sure how that breaks down. I'll let the Marines here educate us on their distinctions in rank.

Against someone and to do it for political purposes is just impossibly bad.
People have committed suicide due to being accused of this.
Vance should apologize for this.

Walz was a Command Sergeant Major, so he has a thick skin. Vance will not get to him.

when he had a similar role.

As to Walz's, apparently some of the same dirt was thrown in his Congessional and his Governor race, and even in his RED district, it did not hold water.

14. Tim was attacked plenty about that.

The attacks went no where.

Tim knows that those who serve take an oath to uphold and defend the US Constitution against enemies foreign and domestic. They are obliged as Veterans to still uphold that oath when they leave the service. As well to honor the flag (patches) that they wore as part of their uniforms.

Tim will NOT disparage anyone for their service. But he will criticize those who VIOLATED their oaths in relation to January 6th, of any Veteran who partook in the insurrection at the Capitol. Any Veteran present who took part in damage, beating Police Officers then, etc., are not to receive the respect and honor due them. One in particular, a woman, chose to be there and she was killed.

don't attack Vance's military record, by all accounts, he served honorably in the USMC and received an Honorable Discharge with a top re-enlistment code just in case he ever wanted to re-enlist, the same as Gov. Walz did.
Vance is a vile piece of shit generally and specifically for going after Gov. Walz's military record and so far, by all accounts, it's backfiring spectacularly with the general public and with pretty much the majority of the active, reserve and retired vets, so we shouldn't mimic what that asshole and his cohorts are doing, in this case, we take the high road and keep nailing him on his fascist views for America.
