Olympic Men's Basketball (Spoiler)

USA beats France 98-87

Its a real treat to watch these NBA stars - Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, LeBron James - play on the same team. They are SO GOOD.

8 3-pointers for Curry.

In 2012, he wasn't yet Steph "Freaking" Curry. He was just in the league 3 years, only averaged 16ppg, hadn't yet changed the game (creating his own shot for 3), had an injury history & hadn't filled out to prevent getting pushed around on defense.
2016 is more questionable because he was a champion, the game had changed because of him, and he won an MVP.
The Tokyo games were in '21 not '20, and he was hobbling at the end of that season. They may have asked him but he didn't feel like he could.
This year, he ended the season healthy, he's an elder statesman of the game, he's internationally popular, so he HAD to go. In 4 years, he may be retired, so even if he was tired from the season, he had to accept.

Mugged an excellent French team with dagger three pointers when it counted. Mr. Clutch.

One thing I noted is that heard almost nothing about Curry for the whole Olympics, then he scores 60 in the last 2 games. It was Duran, Duran, Duan, James, James, James & some Embiid & Edward's thrown in.
The flaw in this roster was there were no true 2 way players except for James & he's 40. They had O guys, they had D guys, but when the O was indefensible, the D was substandard. And vice versa.
I watched the games and I don't think they played to their potential & we could have constructed a better overall team.
Yet, they won the Gold. So, I guess it doesn't matter.

His career accuracy is actually 0.5% better than his brothers.
Now, that's not a full story stat, because Steph creates his own shot off the dribble while Seth is a spot-up shooter.
But, 43% career from 3 is awfully, awfully good.
Seth is not, though, the all-around player his brother is. He's probably not the all-around player that his dad was. But, shooting matters, and he can sure shoot.

What an incredible talent - along with LeBron, Kevin, etc.

Kudos to France, too, for a great game.

...that he was getting gassed & that shot was "just a heave", but all that practice kicked in & it went in.
I guess if you shoot a couple thousand 3s a week for 15 years, that kind of "luck" happens.

Steph got the biggest fan reaction when his name was announced.
I'd say the 2nd biggest ovation was for Durant, then Lebron.
Predictably, the French fans booed the heck out of Embiid.
