Thank you for your service ya'll not just Tim.

(41,101 posts)My understanding is that he didnt know because he couldnt know.
This whole thing is disgusting. He could have retired anytime after 9/11 because he already had 20 years of service in the bank and his reward for staying four extra years by which time his ears had been blown out from spending too much time around howitzer batteries is partisan slurs from people in thrall to a draft dodger who scorns the very idea of military service.

(9,315 posts)The Sunday morning M$M have it front and center as a "thing".
It is not a thing!!! No matter how they look at it, it is not thing.
It makes me so mad what they do to maintain controversy.
Think. Again.

(19,156 posts)Is utterly disgusting.
Most people in this country don't serve in the military AT ALL. So they have no f*cking clue. (Army vet here, btw. Didn't serve as long as Walz)
For a veteran like Vance to make a thing of it, well he would have standing if there was any "there" there. But there isn't. And his trying to stretch the facts to make a negative out of a record like Walz's, is pathetic.

(9,315 posts)Plus, this had to have vetted during his multiple congressional runs and twice as governor.

(9,315 posts)What difference does it make if he knew or not.
He retired after 24 years and went to congress. End of story.
I'm so mad about the media making it something when it is nothing.

(1,977 posts)Expressing frustration at the msm for bringing it up is perfectly reasonable.
If people did not post things about the bogus crap msm keeps bringing up there would be a lot less posting.
I understand your point of view as well but repeatedly complaining about it makes you seem aggressive and a bit OCD, needing to have the last word.
Duers can agree to disagree. Youve done that.

(596 posts)Being a retired USAF E-7 myself, I cant remember anyone ever saying that a person was abandoning the unit when they retired. EVER.
The two yobs they claim felt abandoned by his retirement is fictitious or just outright bullshit lies. Any asshole talking head to claim disgust or any other such nonsense about a 24 year military career should give up their job. And take the oath themselves and wear the uniform.
And I am not just being pro military, I spent another 20 years after the AF as a civil servant with Homeland Security, TSA, and would echo the same sentiment about that part of my life too. Every retirement was welcomed by coworkers as a celebration of a service well spent. At some point, it is time to turn the keys over to those younger to carry the torch.

(11,203 posts)Walz didn't know if/when his unit would ever be deployed. He served over 20 years.
Walz misspoke when saying he's carried military arms IN war, when he should have said arms OF war, many years ago. He, like many currently in the military and veterans, never was involved in direct combat. That doesn't make his service less honorable. There is no stolen valor.

And if the government disagreed, they could have stop lossed him.

(35,074 posts)Democrats know it's bullshit, and trumpers do not give a fuck about the military - they support trump despite his well documented disrespect of McCain and gold star families.
"Independents" clearly don't give a fuck either since they swing back and forth between both sides.
If anyone is voting based on the military then they need to take a look at project 2025's plans. The choices that Tim Walz made after 24 YEARS of service shouldn't be their concern.

(35,074 posts)After 20 years of service he's entitled to retirement regardless of the reason, and Walz stayed in for 24 years.
The right wing wants to make it messy back and forth on whether Walz knew his unit would be deploying. It doesn't matter. If you're set to retire, you have a right to do that. You're not obligated to stay for another 2 to 4 years and roll the dice one more time in a war zone. It all goes back to the "mind your own effin business" rule.
