General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI am going to make this general observation, again...If you dont like a topic, if you dont like a certain
sport or interest or activity, but you then go out of your way to comment about how you don't care about something or you don't like the particular thing someone is talking about, it annoys the shit out of me.
Last thing I ever do, I don't spend my time telling you how your interest bothers me, I don't know how to say it better than that, meaning not sure if I am being clear.
Happens at various message boards I participate in. I can't get over how people will spend their valuable time telling others that they dont care or aren't interested.
That is all. Just my opinion. I dont mean to hurt any feelings, etc.

As the saying goes, opinions are like assholes - everybody's got one. Social networking tools make it way too easy to share them.

(26,253 posts)There are thousands of new things on DU every day. But some people have to stop, tell everyone that they don't like a particular thing, I guess to let everybody know that they don't like a particular thing. Okay, so what? Move on. There is enough fish in the sea w/ all of the thousands of stories to read and enjoy on DU, w/o having to be negative about it.

(2,560 posts)I will try to curb that impulse in the future when it surfaces in me. Thank you for calling it to my attention and making me think about it.

(28,355 posts)I love baseball. I love the unpredictability, the pace, the skill set required to play at whatever level I happen to be watching.
I understand why millions dont like it. I dont care. Thats their business. I dont require the rationalizations of their collective psyches to comprehend their position and my interest isnt going to flag one iota whatever the arguments posited are.

(34,285 posts)Many years ago I was a huge NFL fan, an Oakland Raiders fan, I went to their training camp when I was a kid, and also a 49ers fan.
After seeing the movie "Concussion" and talking with my cousin Robert, who happened to have been a ball/bat boy for the San Francisco Giants in the 60s and knew Willie Mays and the rest of them, played catch with them and worked for the team, and he talked about how irresponsible and dangerous it was to play football because of the concussions and that until they resolved that he would not watch anymore.
Between that reasoning and just no longer finding it interesting I don't watch football much anymore but I will watch highlights here and there of this or that. What you won't see me do I hope is enter a conversation where other people are talking about how much they like football and tell them that I don't like football and if I've done that I was wrong to do it.
If you are a fan you would love to hear Robert's stories. For instance he played catch with different players like Willie because he was at the park before most of the other players (Willie) showed up and needed someone to warm him up. Robert said he was the most difficult person to play catch with because of the side arm throw he had, semi side arm. The ball moved a lot.
He also said you knew when Willie was in the clubhouse because you could hear him laughing, he had a distinct laugh and laughed all the time. He loved life, he loved other players. We lost a Giant in more ways than one recently.

(34,285 posts)think, they just assume we just watched the same thing they did and know what they are talking about.
Zoomie1986
(1,213 posts)Is, ipso facto, obnoxious. And lazy. No, not everyone is watching the same thing you are when you are. No, we can't read your mind.
Think of it the same way you would this real-world situation: You're at a party and a new neighbor or colleague is tagging along because they've met no one else yet. Now imagine going up to different people you know and not making introductions between those people and the newbie. You just yammer away with the prior acquaintance as if everyone knows each other.
That's exactly what these low info posters are doing. Because, just like it takes a bare minimum of time to introduce people who don't know each other, it takes no time at all to include people who weren't watching X to say, 'I was watching X just now, and Y said this awful thing, or Z made a great point about...'

Pretty lame channel but you'll get the idea. She went all in 100%. Gotta give her props for that. She also did a kangeroo jump a few times! How great is that! A bit on the comical side but it was fun to watch.
* I still gave the channel an upvote!

Eliot Rosewater
(34,285 posts)make any kind of negative comment about someone performing whether it be sports or the arts, acting, singing etc.
One time years ago Elton John, one of the most talented human beings to ever live, remarked that contrary to what others were saying at the time HE was a BIG fan of Britney Spears and that all the negativity about here was unnecessary and wrong.
He made the point as I would that it is not my type of music, but to achieve what she has achieved in any "arts" is amazing, etc.
I dont like some types of music myself and I like many more than I dont. But I dont criticize the music or the talent. I might say FUCK YOU to a singer songwriter who makes it clear they love magats and trump and rightwing garbage, but I wont attack the music itself.
