Republicans are huddled. They are worried. They chose a convicted felon as their nominee for President and he is dropping like a rock in the polls. This does not bode well for many of them. They could lose their seats.
Unfortunately, they have made their bed and they have to sleep in it.
If the American people wake up and recognize what these political criminals have hoisted on them, they are in deep trouble.
There is no joy in Mudville.

(115,011 posts)the top of the ticket could very much affect down ballot. If the support for Harris and Walz continues to grow, it could send a lot of Republicans home.
Prairie Gates
(6,977 posts)In my view, we're not close to there yet, and it's just as likely that the electorate will divorce the top of the ticket from down ballot races because Trump's presence is so strange.

(25,355 posts)will probably split their ticket, voting for Harris/Walz, and for Rs down ticket.
But a large turnout of enthusiastic Dems might mean Dem winners down ticket.

(3,396 posts)Dont let it get you down. They have always been here. Long before Trump. You cant change that. But you can recognize there are many many good people around you.
Case in point I was at a large outdoor bar and restaurant last night. There were a few dudes wearing Trump garb. One of the people on our party commenting on how many douchebags were there. It started to bring the mood down. I exclaimed, Look we are having a good time and we are pissing it away because of 3 people
There is a lot more to be happy about than not. Focus on the good. Focusing on the bad rarely helps anything.

The L.A.Times framed it in 2015. Comparing Trump to Aviation Hero Smurch:

the greatest man in the world was a low-rent criminal and a cheap, orange-smeared vulgarian.
And a befuddled government makes him have an accident, interestingly, falling out a window, to save the embarrassment.
The article has full spoilers.
2015:
Or is Trump truly so big really huge that he doesnt need those GOP stiffs and mugs? Just maybe, he could wind up tossing the GOP establishment from the window instead, as the crowd in the street cheers.
Yes, he did. And now, the tables are turned, but will the completely neutered GOP toss him out a window? Instead, they might "hope" that someone on a rooftop ...

mucholderthandirt
(1,738 posts)Either a feeler to see how something happening to Trump would go over with the base, or a failed attempt. Set up the shooter, going to kill that fool, no martyring him, take out the orange bastard. But, they neglected to make sure the fool could actually shoot straight.
My conspiracy theory is, Vance goes, then Trump either strokes out, or falls out a window, or the next shooter gets him. As long as he's done, buried, soon to be forgotten, it matters not. Then whoever the new VP choice is, really who they think can beat Kamala Harris, takes over, gets a ton of sympathy votes, and sails into the White House. Even if they lose, they're set up for the next cycle. No more crazy on the outside, keep it all inside and the real bosses are running the country.
The big money people don't give a shit about Trump, or Vance, or the base. All they want is a puppet they can control. Last one was GWB, he might have been an idiot, but he apparently wasn't totally batshit crazy. I think the money people lost control of the MAGA base, which is why we have people like Empty Green and the Bobo. Those kind weren't supposed to end up elected. A little crazy, like Mike Johnson, maybe, but full-out, needs to be in a nut ward? Nah.
The course will correct itself. I predict we get two terms of Harris/Walz, and then it's back on.
birdographer
(2,937 posts)and I like it. If some of us are coming to this conclusion as the only feasible way out for them, we have to know that it has occurred to them. I firmly believe trump had Epstein killed because he was going to testify against him. He had become a liability. This seems to be the way they think. And now trump is a liability. If the stress was going to take him out, it would have by now. His whole life has been a matter of living in chaos and uncertainty (will the banks still lend him money? Will the casino go belly-up?) and skating on the edge; he's too used to this to succumb to it naturally. His base will accept any authoritarian bigot they put on the ballot. I don't think they considered the possibility that the shooter would miss such a big target.
wnylib
(25,355 posts)Trump will stay on the ticket but his handlers will keep him as much in the bavkground as possible, considering it's Trump. Vance will continue to be the campaign spokesperson who does interviews and rallies.
If they pull off a win by hook or crook, Vance will be running the show, just like Cheney ran the show under Bush the Lesser, and Bush the Elder ran the show under St. Raygun. It would be possible for the MAGA backers to sideline the Orange Criminal after the election because, by election day, he will be so out if it that all they'd have to do is medicate him and prop him up occasionally for the public. Within the first 6 months he would be out of office and in a nursing home after a public announcement of some sort of debilitating disorder. They would never admit that his brain was mush.
But, I do not believe that he will win. The MAGAs will try to steal the election, and will hold up the results as long as possible OR will make a quick claim to win and try to take over, but will be pushed back down.

Biden had an "accident" too, just before that debate. Jet lag? You don't recover quickly from that.
I didn't have a pick for VP, but Walz is amazing me with his energy, enthusiasm and style.
Escurumbele
(3,986 posts)will happen. Some may not vote for Harris/Walz, but they will not vote for the buffoon while telling their base otherwise, and some will vote for the Democratic ticket because they understand it is the right thing to do. Republicans are sick of the buffoon, most except the MAGA republicans who also make other republicans sick.
I want Harris/Walz to win by a landslide on both the popular vote and the EC (the EC must be abolished), for Democrats to take the Congress and the Senate to allow good policies to be passed without their constant obstruction.
Also, to increase the number of judges in the corrupt supreme court, and maybe even impeach Alito and Thomas.

. to Donny to pay his skyrocketing legal bills and civil penalties so the RNC will have little
money to help all the other down ballot republicans. And a little fun fact is that to raise money
you need money to begin with so this election might be a true blue tsunami.

(25,355 posts)embraced Trump's crude "social rebel" behavior and gaslighting as tools to defeat her because normal political discourse couldn't win against her knowledge and experience.
But Trump was a one trick pony, effective just that one time with backing from a racist backlash after Obama and help from Putin. He embraced the racist extremists and social misfits who identified with his rebellion and social outsider "bad boy" image.
His tactics failed to create a red wave in 2022. He revived the outsider bad boy image for 2024 by bragging about his indictments and showing off his mug shot. But his behavior in his election interference/hush money trial made him look weak. Harris's background as a prosecutor and her confidence, strength, and sanity as a candidate destroyed his image as a heroic outlaw. Her charisma is genuine, coming from a sincere liking of people. Trump's charisma was just a gaslighting impression of the real thing.
Remember how much he bragged about his indictments and sold images of his mug shot? Notice that he doesn't do it anymore? It's a liability now in this campaign, not an asset.
