Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI am wondering whether men will start shaving off their facial hair.
So that they will not look like a certain weird nutcase or begin to wear eyeliner so they will.

(5,119 posts)The beard and stash went because I got a job where they would not fit in. However, the timing was excellent, since I want to avoid the Vance look as much as possible.

(3,689 posts)They do it because a lot of women find it hot as hell 🔥
Okay probably the real reason is because its easier not to shave every day :-D but in general give me a dude with facial hair any day over baby smooth skin.

(1,213 posts)Because that is an outright lie.
My husband has super-coarse facial hair but very--very--delicate skin. Getting the blade to cut the hair without cutting his skin--it just wasn't happening, no matter how sharp the blades. He could never get through a shave without blood everywhere, and he was in constant pain from having so many cuts and raw spots on his face.
I got tired of the mess and his agony, and finally recommended that he grow a beard. He did, and he's been much happier ever since. Plus I'm happy that I don't have a bunch of blood-stained towels to replace.
It's presumptuous, judgmental and hateful to think people don't have legitimate reasons to forego shaving.

(19,410 posts)... after Vance gets done with it there are puddles all over the cushions. But if you use a black light the puddles are so much easier to locate.
Just a tip, should Vance ever stop by your house and ask to fornicate, oops I meant sleep on the sofa.

(3,689 posts)This is James Harden. He has zero NBA championship rings despite playing in the League for 15 seasons and scoring nearly 26,000 points. It's quite an accomplishment. But, I digress. When a man looks like this, a woman can confidently play that game where you throw popcorn at each other and see if you can get it in the other person's mouth. How can you miss? Whatever doesn't go in just gets caught in the beard.

(64,566 posts)mustache because of a bad experience in WW1: A regular or stylish handlebar mustache interrupted the seal around the face on gas masks that protected soldiers from mustard gas.
Maybe it's an urban legend.

(55,334 posts)I doubt Hitler was copying Chaplin, but just adopting the fashion like many German men did after the war. It was easier to maintain than the handlebar stash popularized by the Kaiser and many German officers. Contrasting the pre-war style as well as convenience of grooming made it popular after the war added to the moustache's popularity
Here's a picture of Fred Trump sporting one

(20,404 posts)I shaved my beard during COVID once, and my wife was PISSED. Said it made me look like a 15 yr old boy again.
I'm blessed to be able to grow a nice, full beard that I keep well groomed. I like it, and my wife likes it. That's all that matters to me.

I wouldn't want to look like many of them, but I don't base my personal style decisions on them, either.
I've mostly been clean-shaven my whole life, except for a mustache for a few years
