Wyoming Democrats @WyoDemsIn the reddest state in America, about 200 people turned out for a rally in support of Kamala Harris! We can feel the energy and we believe to our core- when we fight, we win! Are you ready to fight with us for a better Wyoming?

Trumps private appearance in Wyoming was counterbalanced by a public rally supporting the presumptive Dem. presidential nominee Kamala Harris & her running mate Tim Walz.

Leslie Petersen, a longtime Democratic party member, office holder and activist in Teton County and Wyoming who attended the rally, said her partys return to joy theme was not just a slogan.
Drive-by supporters honked horns regularly as they passed the rally, which took place in the heart of one of Wyomings few left-leaning communities. A group of about five Trump supporters briefly shouted their views from across the street. Rally goers reported at least one instance of being flipped off.

The Kamala Harris/Tim Walz rally in Jackson on Aug. 9, 2024 generated an hours worth of honks from passing motorists who supported the crowd. (Angus M. Thuermer Jr./WyoFile)

(8,222 posts)It doesn't take courage to have a Harris/Walz sign or sticker. In Wyoming, it takes guts to do that. My hat's off to them as well.

(29,035 posts)Absolutely beautiful state.. miles and miles of no sign of civilization, no telephone wires, cell service, no nothing. Just miles of uninhabited beauty from Yellowstone to Riverton. I figure it must be the relentless wind that makes people crazy.

(24,395 posts)Unlike a TV ad or debate, a political rally connects candidates directly with voters. Rallies in red states would cut out the media middlemen. People who may never before heard what Democrats stand for would appreciate learning how we have a plan to make life better for ALL Americans and that includes them.
In the process, red states might flip blue. And if we dont try, red will stay red.

(11,098 posts)Kinda how a lot of governors visit every county when running for governor.
jayschool2013
(2,611 posts)But do any states elect governors through an Electoral College system? Or do they all simply count the popular vote from across the state?
If they elect by direct popular vote (direct democracy), then each state should sign the interstate compact for a nationwide presidential popular vote.

(24,395 posts)Family and I visited Grand Teton and Yellowstone national parks during the Great American Eclipse of 2017. Our adventure included rafting down the Snake River and enjoying the Tetons. We stayed toward the Idaho side of the Wyoming range for photography.
Floating down the river, I blurted out that we could see where some great Westerns were filmed, including Shane and Jubal. Our rafting guide showed us a spread where Ernest Borgnine would entertain other Hollywood stars.
The rafter said he had lived in Jackson Hole his entire adult life, serving 18 years as a river guide ("Never tipped over, but there's always a first time." ). He said the change Big Money made to his community was remarkable. First the millionaires came in and the locals moved further away. Then the billionaires came in and bought out the millionaires' properties. They moved to properties further away.
Meanwhile, the lifelong residents and locals of regular means and income have had to move further and further away from the mountains and the beauty of Jackson Hole. Many who work there now live on to the other side of the mountains in eastern Idaho. I imagine the recent mudslide and road collapse caused great hardship on them. The road was re-opened in under a month.

(26,257 posts)properties get rehabbed/fixed up/resold again and again and again, prices get way outrageous and thus, no one part of the original neighborhood is still there (or if they are still there, property taxes are probably up though the roof). I've seen this in the city of STLMO too, not on the scale you've seen, but the pattern is the same. I suspect that 'big money' has influenced/changed a lot of towns/cities over the last 10 or 20 years, to the point that the original 'pizazz' of the place is long gone.

(7,790 posts)I've been seeing WAY too much of it in this little city in which I live. The "buy anything in any condition" people buy for 20k or less, sell it for $165k, and drive the rest of the neighborhood out of their lifelong homes as the property taxes go sky high. It's "grading on the curve" in the wrong way.
I personally know one of these < 1100 sq ft homes that was bought for less than 20k by a corporate rehabber. The final house looked nice, to be sure... but it's still just an 1100 sq ft home and it sold for $165k... way overpriced for what it actually is in this area. But it sure jacked up the property tax rate for that neighborhood.
