Home Depot issues a warning about the economyNew York
CNN
Home Depot says consumers are feeling crummy about the economy, and theyre dishing out less on major home renovation projects.
The home improvement giant, a bellwether of consumer spending and the housing market, lowered its sales expectations for the year. It said customers were spending less on home improvement projects, pressured by higher interest rates and concerns that the economy is getting worse.
Home Depots business is closely tied to the housing market, and high interest rates are putting a brake on housing turnover and consumers financing larger projects.
During the quarter, higher interest rates and greater macro-economic uncertainty pressured consumer demand more broadly, resulting in weaker spend across home improvement projects, Ted Decker, Home Depots CEO, said in a news release.

(13,018 posts)And the Depot CEO said he did not want liberals shopping there. And were Majority. So fuck him, and the MAGAs are sending their cash to Trump, so home improvement has to wait.

(6,527 posts)Maybe they are getting a larger market share with lower prices. We needed replacement pickets for my backyard fence and Lowe's had a sale on them that cut HD by 50 cents each. With my ex's pro discount of 5%, which HD doesn't give with their pro card, we got 8 cents more off them.

(12,248 posts)There during the covid shitshow. They were all in on trump policy. My son was wearing mask, and bullied by shoppers and employees. Home depot was shit, as far as enforcing mask requirements. My son quit, because mask mandate wasn't enforced. This was in Idaho. Ugh. Home depot is off my shopping list, and has been for fn years! Rw nutters. No, thanks!

(68,952 posts)And we did NOT spend more elsewhere. The big numbers were the soaking tub, vanity, faucets and drains - Amazon. Tile - local tile store. Labor - my longtime handyman/contractor.

(19,439 posts)A guy came in today after buying a specialty free-standing tub at Home Despot. He had questions about the tub's drain. I searched HD's website, but there were no specs or information. No installation instructions. I tried to find the manufacturer's website- There was no website available for the manufacturer either. No place to call for customer service.
As I'm spending time to be this guy's secretary, he keeps firing questions at me about the tub's plumbing setup. I told him, "I don't know. I don't work at Home Depot." No information was available about the drain or the installation, except for one phrase about a "flexible plastic hose" He said it didn't come with any useable installation instructions. I had to tell the guy: "Go back to Home Depot and ask them." Good luck with that.
It's surprising how many people buy things at Home Despot and then come to us for help with installation. I'll help them if I can, but I'm not Home Depot's customer service rep.

(49,386 posts)I hardly ever go but when I do, I'm amazed at how bad so many of the products are. And I end up buying nothing. Maybe the Home Depot CEO should work on his enshittification problem rather than blaming consumers and the economy.

Because all HDs near me, and most of the HDs I've ever set foot in, are disorganized dumps and terrible shopping/buying experiences.

(7,401 posts)The one near our house in Kentucky delivered everything we needed to expand the patio and add a roof with electric. They also sold everything for the kitchen. I could even buy one single bolt the right size and the man even looked at my drill bit case to make sure I had to I needed to get it tight.
We have an Ace here in Ohio. They are similar. Fix mowers. Deliver mulch. If you need building materials they refer you to a family owned lumber yard about 10 miles away.

(28,277 posts)...When I went to check out, the line at the manned cashier station was a mile long, and I refuse to use self-checkout since they put robots above humans. Since the line was so long, I just parked my cart in an aisle and left. They can either hire actual cashiers that can process me more quickly, or they can do without my business. I'll get the stuff I wanted later, maybe somewhere else.
And he complains that I'm not buying his stuff--go figure.

You're the one who pals around with traitors, so you can't complain when real Americans refuse to do business with you.

(1,107 posts)Home Depot always has older folks working there that actually have valuable knowledge, I can find a retired plumber or electrician. Lowes is sterile there is never anyone in there to help me. Sure it looks a little nicer but it's useless when you need someone.
With that being said these stores are all varied, it depends on the location.
All of these stores are controlled at some level by filthy monied interests. This is life in Amerika. But remember, these are everyday ordinary people working there that are just trying to make a buck.

(36,792 posts)Train your people to keep the shelves stocked and orderly. Quit piling shit in the aisle so that a person cannot even get to the shelf where the item they are looking for MIGHT be if lucky. I got some more ideas but those are the highlights.

(17,520 posts)People in Florida and Texas struggle to find workers to repair roofs, install water heaters, put in new floors, complete remodeling jobs, or paint.
Theres a wait to get jobs done because of labor shortages, and theres some jobs that no one is interested in at all painting an old house, many contractors said no, they only do new houses now.
