JD Vance Retweets Ex-Trump Speechwriter Fired Over White Nationalist Ties During Trump-Musk Interview

JD Vance, Donald Trump's Republican vice-presidential nominee, retweeted a former Trump White House speechwriter who was dismissed over connections to white nationalists. The speechwriter, Darren J. Beattie, praised Donald Trump’s performance during a recent X Spaces conversation with Elon Musk, despite widespread criticism of the event. The retweet was first flagged by Jacob N. Kornbluh, a senior political reporter at The Forward.

Beattie’s tweet, which read, “Trump doing very well,” was shared by Vance during the bizarre Spaces conversation. The event, which began late due to what Musk claimed was a Distributed Denial of Service (DDOS) attack, was widely panned as a disaster. An off-the-record statement from an X employee contradicted Musk’s claim, saying no such attack occurred and there was a 99% chance Musk was lying. The conversation itself was criticized for Trump’s rambling answers and Musk’s awkward and incessant praise of the former president. The hashtags “Dentures” and “Daffy Duck” trended on X due to Trump’s apparent slurred speech and lisp.

Vance's boosting of Darren J. Beattie’s is particularly controversial given his history. Beattie was fired from the Trump White House after it was revealed that he had spoken at a conference attended by well-known white nationalists, including Peter Brimelow, founder of the anti-immigrant website Vdare.com. Brimelow has openly described himself as a believer in “racial nationalism” and regularly publishes works by white supremacists. According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, an advocacy group that monitors hate groups and extremists, Brimelow “regularly publishes works by white supremacists, anti-Semites, and others on the radical right,”

Despite his dismissal, Beattie has remained a vocal supporter of Trump, even as he has been ostracized by mainstream political circles. His retweet by Vance, who has been embroiled in multiple controversies since being selected as Trump’s running mate, has added fuel to the fire, raising questions about Vance’s judgment and the company he keeps. The incident also raises concerns about the broader direction of the Republican Party under Trump’s influence, as it continues to grapple with its association with far-right elements.
