My state of Iowa Republican Governor is one of them.
I plan to write a letter to the Des Moines Register, the state's major newspaper, pointing out that this is poor policy for farmers. It's a major market that they are closing off for farm products ....

(44,807 posts)To promote the general welfare remember. Real big-time Christians these people are. Dont know why they enjoy seeing children go hungry.

(29,078 posts)layabouts with free stuff and advantages paid for with your hard-earned taxes (which are always TOO HIGH) in return for votes, heartlessly taking all the jobs away because of regulations, making your lives miserable -- has nothing to do with the Republicans who actually completely run red states!
Always what they run on.

(333 posts)I hadn't even considered that angle, just so boggled by their senseless cruelty I didn't recognize that they're harming their own constituents. I looked it up an all the state has to do is split the administrative costs of the program 50/50. The costs of the benefits are assumed by the US government.
Whether the governor is just a penny-wise and pound foolish miser, or simply cruel/heartless, it would seem that spending a little to feed children and give the state/farmers additional income isn't a political winner on any level. She refuses increased money for her state, even though it would benefit hungry children and increase the state's local market for farm products. I don't grasp Republican ethos so I don't understand how she explains it to all the voters in her state in a way that makes them approve but hey, she won't face re-election until 2026, and Iowa has no provision for citizen ballot initiatives.

(4,710 posts)Has been the party of wealth and privilege.
As Shrub put it, "The have's and have mores".
They don't believe in a middle class. They want a working class of people compliant and desperate to work for whatever the rich want to pay them.
Empty bellies are easier to manipulate than full ones.

(2,740 posts)That can't be diverted to the pockets of rich and wealthy Republican donors. Red States only like federal programs where they can pass on the bulk of the funds to their buddies instead of where it is meant to go. Its the main reason DeSantis accepted the "green" grant money but has turned down other actual assistance for working people.
