I don't have a VFW Post that I attend...I joined the VFW as a member at large...I tried attending a post but found that it was too right wing leaning for my liking...so went back to being a member at large.

Please help me understand why this is so?

Recently - I've connected with former classmates of mine that are veterans and members of a VFW Post. We held a class reunion at the VFW hall.

I was shocked to hear the discussions and beliefs of my former classmates and the other members of the Post. They all were 'too right leaning' and I was shocked by this and couldn't believe that these Veterans (that Tr**p called 'suckers and losers' could even support such a person and do it so vehemently.

Now I thought I knew my former classmates. We grew up together during the 60's and 70's. They were very liberal thinkers back then. Products of the time. Free thinkers. Liberals. Free love. Hippy culture, etc.

What happened to them to change their beliefs? Did the military change them?
Did the Viet Nam war change them? Why have these people done such a 180?

I'm hoping you have some insight into this so as to enlighten me and maybe help me understand why I'm so shocked by their 'now beliefs' and 'behaviors'.

One would think that they'd be opposed to the 'right wing' leanings.

8. I don't know how they'd be today, but my former service member friends were liberal.

We all hated Ronald Reagan, and when he got elected I was told more than once that I was lucky I was "short" and wouldn't be serving under him (only about a week). We knew he'd done something underhanded about the hostages in Iran, that rat bastard.

I think I was born liberal and have been moving left ever since.
