BREAKTHROUGH DEAL EXPECTED BETWEEN ISRAEL AND HAMAS

(posting here rather than in LBN as this is from a so far very reliable newsletter from Israel, not a news publication)

According to US officials, a significant breakthrough in the deal is anticipated. The framework proposed by President Biden has been accepted by both Israel and Hamas. Currently, the final details of this agreement are being discussed in Qatar, as reported by the US State Department.

Additionally, the Prime Minister of Qatar has communicated with the Acting Foreign Minister of Iran, informing him about the ongoing negotiation talks in Doha.

which is why they're using Hezbollah and Houthi fanatics to do their dirty work for them. Even their missile and drone attack was largely shot down by the Jordanians, Saudis, the US and UK before Israel got a crack at it and mostly finished it off.

Despite the overheated rhetoric of their Revolutionary Guards, I never thought those old Mullahs would go for the idea. The logistics suck, for one thing, and those old boys were educated in the west, so they know 50 year old F-4 jets are no match for anything that has been built since then.

I think Qatar is trying to get Iran to sign off on a peace deal because all the other states in the region are getting sick of this shit. They know the oil won't last forever and want to get their tourism industry in full gear and they can't do that if these morons keep shooting.

I say good luck to them. People in the Middle East have been slaughtering each other for millennia. The stakes are just too high now to let that continue.

Could you share the name of the source? Not an expression of doubt, merely of curiousity.

It can be hard to discern between last minute posturings and genuine obstacles in these matters, especially when they are complicated further by stagecraft.

Hamas isn’t even in attendance at the peace talks right now. So they’d have to agree by phone.

As long as the war is going, he stops that. He was probably hoping to widen the conflict with the targeted assassinations. Iran may have decided the right move was not to fall into his trap.

Mediators from the US, Qatar and Egypt met an Israeli delegation in the Qatari capital of Doha on Thursday afternoon, with talks expected to continue into the next day. Hamas, the Palestinian militant group, is not directly participating in the talks, meaning expectations of a breakthrough are low.

While Hamas and Israel agreed in principle last month to implement a three-phase plan publicly proposed by Joe Biden in May, both sides have since requested “amendments” and “clarifications”, leaving talks at an impasse. Gaps include the continuing presence of Israeli troops on the Gaza-Egypt border, the sequencing of a hostage release, and the return of civilians from southern to northern Gaza.
