She was convicted of manslaughter, not murder. Possible penalties will not include life imprisonment.

If it happens that she does, in actuality, spend the rest of her life in prison, I'm not picky about the manner in which her life ends.

But, you know judges and white defendents who kill blaxk people.

But thats what the charge brings. She is 59, so she could very well die in prison.

I'm effing sick and tired of so many perpetually FEARFUL Americans who cannot LIVE without a loaded gun within 10 feet at all times and places. And the fear of the boogey man resulting in the discharging of one without certifying any real threat.

This is a major mental disease ... the gun ... the power to (at best) scare someone else shitless, and (at worst) wound and kill multiple people, targets who were innocent/uninvolved with the ridiculous stimulus to the shooter's sense of safety.

I'll be 70 in November, and I've sadly come to realize this national, major, festering, chronic, DISEASE -- of feeling like one MUST own and have such PACIFIERS within arm's reach at any moment's notice -- will never be rationalized or lessened until I'm long dead, and probably well past my great-grandchildrens' lifetimes. I've never once felt the need to get a gun for my person/household. All you "lawful gun owners" who own and carry will laugh and attack me; I don't give two shits how you defend your positions on this. I guess it's part of my largely European ancestry that I don't believe firearms should be in ANYONE's hands for any reason beyond the democratic governments' military and civil police forces. Even fireworks being shot off in wide open back yards piss me off no end. Men (and women) loving self-detonated explosions, and the danger to others of setting them off.

It is this MENTAL DISEASE, plus the other one, family-forced indoctrination of kids into religious dogmas from the ages of 2 onward (any and all "faiths", not just xtian), that just DEEPLY grind my decades old gears. The 2nd Amendment and the so-called "freedom of religion" phrase of the Constitution have enabled many generations to over-embrace such very injurious habits, and each successive generation considers these habits to be perfectly normal. It just makes my skin crawl that this is all part of a "normal society".

Apparently I do not understand, nor have I ever understood the psyche's of a seemingly big majority of American citizens.

Thank you for listening. "Fire away" as many of you undoubtedly will, with me having struck deep nerves.

...I would own an AR-15, locked unloaded with its ammunition in a gun safe (I don't trust trigger locks); I would know how to field strip and clean it, and I would practice marksmanship one weekend per month. This is not to make me feel safe -- in fact the thought turns my stomach -- but I refuse to cede the "we've got the guns" advantage entirely to MAGA-Nation.

... I am trustful that our democratic government-funded police forces and militaries would completely obliterate any "Meal Team Six" wannabe terrorist units long before they would ever know of me, or care about coming after me and my family members.

Call me naive, but I really believe if MAGA/QAnon ever did get to the W.H. and issue "orders" to round-up and/or massacre us awful "leftists", that 3/4 of the military would quit, or turn against their "commanders" with appropriate weaponry. Not pretty, but I'm counting on that if this scenario ever plays out in what's left of my life, and my kids'.

And, if it ever came to this horrible Armageddon, I'd gladly do myself in with any sort of sharp lawn care instrument, before the OAF keepers ever got going in my region. I'll be much more worried about my offspring than myself, at this stage of my life.

I’m on the fence about getting a gun, because the firearm might be the most valuable thing in the house, after me.

If I do get one, it’ll be a shotgun with a grade of buckshot that won’t go beyond my walls (I care about my neighbors). I’d choose the shotgun because it requires much less practice to be proficient, and it’s something I could fire from around a corner.

I see no reason to get a rifle of any kind because I’m shooting across a room, not a football field.

This is probably just talk on my part. I feel that getting a firearm means that I’m giving in to fear. I’ve been in situations here in Texas where I was hoping the other guy -wasn’t- armed, but my being armed would probably have hurt more than helped.

Talking head on Court TV thinks the murderer will only get about 15 years, not the max 30 for this crime. He also said she could have been found not guilty. Gonna be interesting to see what she gets. Jury only deliberated for 2 hours.

Killing of Ajike Owens -wiki

snip-"Owens, her family and the 58-year-old accused shooter had contentious history between them before the fatal shooting. According to Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods there were about half a dozen calls concerning an ongoing neighborhood feud that deputies had responded to since January 2021, that involved the parties.[5] A neighbor living across from the accused stated that the accused was angry all of the time due to the Owens children playing outside, and that the accused would say "nasty things to them".[6]"

snip-"Police interviewed Owens' children along with neighbors who overheard the accused arguing with the children. They reported that during the argument the accused allegedly threw a roller skate at the children, hitting one of them in the foot, and also allegedly swung an umbrella at another one of them. After the children told their mother about the incident, Owens went to the accused's home to confront her. She was with her 10-year-old son when she knocked on the accused's door, and when she got shot.[7] Civil rights attorney Ben Crump and Anthony D. Thomas, who represent Owens' family, said the accused used racial slurs directed at the children who, like Owens, are black.[6]"

snip-"In a statement from the family of Owens, her mother Pamela Dias stated that the child standing next to Davis when she died, was consumed with grief and guilt that he was unable to perform CPR on Owens. According to Dias the child told her "Grandma, grandma. I couldn't save her."[10]"

more there.

I was reading about this case yesterday. I’m very cynical when it comes to a white person getting convicted for killing a black person. Doubly so when the shooter claims “fear” or “self defense “.

IMHO she should have been charged more harshly, but I understand that proving intent before hand would be difficult. Her story kept changing, and physical evidence didn’t support it. Her internet history showed that she had looked up the situations where “stand your ground” rules applied. She also said verbatim the key words and phrases from online websites.

A lack of respect for human life is endemic in this country, and I see no way of changing it anytime soon.
