https://www.thecut.com/article/tim-walz-white-guy-tacos-controversy.htmlConservative men with posting obsessions always need something new to yell about, and for the past 24 hours theyve decided its Tim Walzs taco preferences. Sure, why not? Their faux outrage spawned from a video released by the Kamala Harris campaign in which Walz tells Harris that he enjoys white-guy tacos.

A trick instead of the spice packet, I add 8 oz. V8 juice and my own spices (cumin, oregano, chili powder, s&p) to a pound of ground beef or turkey. Simmer until thickened.
Zoomie1986
(1,213 posts)I usually make my own, but the packet works for those days when I'm too busy or tired to root around in the spice cabinet.
The packets are also great for making very fast soups.

(296,111 posts)I can just imagine. On the other hand, some folks cannot handle pepper or some other spices. I have a good friend who hates spicy (as I. Hot pepper) food. He is Afro-Caribbean. I have to cook his food separately when I have the regulars over twice a year.
Zoomie1986
(1,213 posts)Because they're nightshade, and my allergies to them are only getting worse over time. Several things that gave me no trouble when I was younger are now intolerances, and what used to be mild intolerances are now 'get out the EpiPen' for me.
The one nightshade that's always been deadly for me has been cayenne. If people measure it out with a spoon, or sprinkle it on food in the same room with me, my throat swells shut in less than 30 seconds, and my head becomes the size of a pumpkin
So much fun.

It must be awful for you. Some people really cant handle hot with pepper food..

(1,138 posts)I used to like spicy when I was younger, I eat a taco tonight itll be heartburn until tomorrow night. I used hot sauce on my eggs, my steaks, my chili, now its bland oatmeal, unsalted eggs and milk. I cant even enjoy a whole soda.
Zoomie1986
(1,213 posts)No, not old age. Something Latin-y. My mother used it sometimes when talking about how people's dietary tolerances change over time.
I was like you--I could eat spicy anything when I was younger. Hotter the better (as long as it wasn't my nemesis, cayenne). Now? I'm almost Minnesotan in my heat tolerance. Almost. But not quite.
Food actually tastes better to me now that I'm getting more creative about seasoning food rather than maxing out the heat. I'm also learning about 'less is more' with seasoning. Many of these modern dishes go way overboard with the herbs and spices, when more judicious use of seasoning brings out the flavor of meats, and especially vegetables, better. After all, it's Coq au Vin, not Ail (garlic) au Vin. The chicken and wine are the stars, and the spices are the supporting cast, not vice versa.
Linda ladeewolf
(1,138 posts)And most of the pepper. Plus since I had Covid right after it got here I have almost no sense of smell. That too affects my taste buds, I had to stop seasoning our food because I cant taste salt very well. My hubby has to season his own, lol.

These tacos were really greasy back in the day probably loaded with cholesterol they eliminated the grease and they suffer today only a hint of grease. I still prefer a good dousing of tobasco. White people tacos, Mexican Tacos they both work for me

Many right-wing influencers did not see humor in the exchange, however, and they accused Walz and Harris of engaging in anti-white bigotry.
"Crazy that a presidential candidate can just casually let out some blatant anti-white racism and nobody cares," complained The Daily Wire's Matt Walsh. "Imagine if Donald Trump said that a 'black guy taco' was made with fried chicken and watermelon. Nuclear meltdown."
The Daily Wire's Ben Shapiro also registered his objection.
"See, folks, it's funny that white people hate spices!" he wrote sarcastically. "Not racist at all! Just funny! (FACT CHECK: Europeans liked spices so much that they literally got involved in several hundred years of war in order to determine control of the spice trade.)"
MAGA influencer Mike Cernovich did some detective work and discovered that Walz had at one time made a taco recipe that featured spices including paprika and chili powder, which he suggested shows "Tim Walz is lying about how people in Minnesota dont season their food."
