I'd like to see some Chicago born and bred musicians, like Chaka Khan, Earth Wind & Fire, Chicago, Buddy Guy, Styx...

Even though country ain't my cup of tea, I like him!

Country music hurts my soul. I just unmuted the Mets game until it was over.

But there is some good songwriting going on these days. I like good lyrics, and I like ballads, and there is a lot more of it going on in country music these days than in most other genres.

I also don't think that the right has a monopoly on country music and it's smart to let them know that.

These days Styx is led by Tommy Shaw of Bama, & Lawrence Gowan, a Canadian Scot from Toronto. So maybe international southern rockers these days

Tommy Shaw was not an original member of the band. The Panozzo brothers and Dennis de Young were from the Roseland area, and John Curulewski was from the south suburbs.

Plus he can arrange, & has a a really good set of pipes. The 400 unit are also a tight & talented band. Did I mention he can play the guitar, going way back to the Drive by Truckers.

That was enough to recommend Isbell and make me check out his music.
His lyrics are raw and honest, and in no way can be categorized as the kind of country music drek that Jason Aldean puts out.
