emotion at seeing your beloved parent up on stage on such an important occasion, and expressing that emotion?
I have to tell you, I am feeling a LOT of emotion about those people right now, and believe me when I tell you that none of those pretend humans would want to be anywhere near me. It would not be weak, or soft, and there would be NO crying (well, on my part, at least!). My claws could do with a bit of sharpening.

ETA: Your last sentence reminded me of my favorite Peggy Carter quote.
When a colleague asks her if she plans on punching all of L.A., she replies with "Maybe. I could do with a hobby."

The level of the emotion is likely much higher when it involves a very top level position or award.

(58,283 posts)He SOBS at tear-jerker movies. His dad was the same way. I remember when we were watching Field of Dreams in a movie theater, he was sobbing so hard during a father son scene that someone came up to my husband and asked him if he was ok!

Give that emotionally honest husband a hug and a hanky from me. I would give my right arm to see my husband's eyes tear up again. Alas, they are long closed.

For me I am more unemotional. And in general has been the same for my parents and oldest two siblings. With the second oldest being less so.

(8,251 posts)I take it, none of these idiots have ever cried at a wedding, a graduation, or any other extremely joyous moment?
It's absurd and just weird to me.
I didn't go to my high school graduation. I was pregnant my senior year. You betcha my parents cried when I graduated college.
Finally able to see me in a cap and gown. There were more tears when I got my graduate degree later in life. This time, the child I had in high school, was now an adult.
Initially, I did not plan to attend the ceremony. It was important to him that I went. He knew the story of his birth and my life. That I did not attend prom or high school graduation. I had to grow up quickly to be his mom.
There are times when you are appropriately overwhelmed with emotions when something so joyous happens. It's weird to me that anyone would be laughing at anyone expressing emotions in this situation.
