The Aryan Nation used to be headquartered near Fallbrook, CA.
A lot of KKK moved West during the Depression to join those that came West to set up their frontier enclaves in the 1860's and 70's because they lost the Civil War and didn't want to have to legally treat former slaves like people.
Their remnants still linger in the hills and suburbs.

in the inland and northern parts of CA. The cancer of the Confederacy was not cured by the Civil War. It just metastasized into the KKK and then the Republiklan Party. This is the biggest reason why they oppose the DoEd and school integration. Children aren't dumb - if children are integrated and go to school together, they quickly realize skin color doesn't matter much just like shirt color doesn't. That racism has to be taught and reinforced at home.

It's where one of the Phoenix metro area's sports arenas is located. So it's probably a coincidence.

It's a majority minority population, only 43% white and about half the city is in Ruben Gallego's congressional district. It was actually the area of the state where Biden won the election.

Don’t recall it being the capital of the KKK.

Now I left in 85, and it was a place filled with ignorant RWers, but Capital? (We had a saying, where do you go for Culture in Glendale? To the grocery store yogurt aisle!)

Now Glendale, CA was a sundown town, city just north of downtown LA.

Finally, that rally Harris/Walz had in AZ, that was in Glendale.

This post just seems like scaremongering from people who don't know anything about Phoenix suburbs. Parts of Glendale are blood red. Other parts are blue.
I'm pretty sure the reason he chose this arena had to do with it being available and being the same place Harris went. I'm more curious about the size of his crowd (or lack thereof), and whether Cheryl Hines files for divorce after RFK endorses TSF.

Tempe is one of the more liberal towns in AZ today. It was a sundown town until the 60s. At the same time, South Phoenix was a burgeoning area for black culture - Louis Jordan lived there in the 50s and 60s. I have a friend whose mother in law went to a segregated high school here.

Went to HS in late 70s

Phx was still basically a segregated city at that time. Majority of blacks lived in South Phx. Hispanics on West side. My HS was probably 75 percent white, 20 percent Hispanic, 5 percent other.

Glendale High had more Hispanics, Tempe High and Marcos De Niza in south Tempe a bit more integrated. Central Phx and Scottsdale very white.

Only thing I can recall in HS as being issues was Apollo High had to institute a no locker policy in 79 or 80 because the white kids were harassing the Mexican kids that lived in Public Housing near downtown Glendale.

Regardless, although there were some racist coaches, I can’t recall any open KKK kids or adults.

As the arena hosting the event doesn’t have any tenant after the Coyotes got booted, I expect both campaigns used it because it is the least expensive place in the Valley. Nothing more to it.

It was primarily white/Latino, I remember maybe four AA kids in school (and two were brother/sister) but it was never really racist. Nowadays Greenway is majority-minority I believe.
Agree about the arena mostly just being available, although I think in the case of Harris they probably needed the capacity as well - I belieive it is the largest indoor venue in the Phoenix area.

The place was a blast, tons of high school kids, some kids going to Glendale CC, and a handful of adults trying to keep us in line. And that was a Huge piece of land that was open for years. Greenway High was in our same league and I believe Glendale Union HS District. It was brand new school when I was at WHS, but it is bugging the hell out of me, can't remember the mascot. Sunnyslope Vikings, Cortez Colts, Apollo Hawks (with the live Hawk) Moon Valley Rockets, I am blanking on Glendale, (red and white) Greenway (green and gold) and Thunderbird (I believe blue and something) but it will hit me. 28. Reagan's first stop after getting his 1st nomination- Philadelphia Mississippi
Fri Aug 23, 2024, 11:18 AM
Aug 2024

On August 3, 1980, presidential candidate Ronald Reagan appeared at the Neshoba County Fair in Neshoba County, Mississippi, to give a speech on states' rights. The location, which was near the site of the 1964 murders of Chaney, Goodman, and Schwerner was, according to critics, evidence of racial bias.

Eulogizing on Reagan's death, Washington Post columnist William Raspberry noted of the incident:
It was bitter symbolism for black Americans (though surely not just for black Americans). Countless observers have noted that Reagan took the Republican Party from virtual irrelevance to the ascendancy it now enjoys. The essence of that transformation, we shouldn't forget, is the party's successful wooing of the race-exploiting Southern Democrats formerly known as Dixiecrats. And Reagan's Philadelphia appearance was an important bouquet in that courtship.[12]

It actually has been politically backward, but the growth in population, with large numbers of people from the Northeast and West Coast have caused a shift.

But Glendale's population is not reflective of the presence of a KKK "office" headquarters or mailbox location. It's an inner, older suburb with 250,000 mostly Latino people and its votes in 2020 helped Biden carry Maricopa County and the state. The southern half of the city lies in Ruben Gallego's congressional district that has been perpetually Democratic for quite a while now.
