He thinks copyrights are his playground. After all, didn't China give Ivanka about 60 copyrights in 2017?

(15,393 posts)Means she may get some sort of residual for the trademark use of her name, logo, or image, but there's a few legal use rules that are different.
A trademark stylized X used by a particular company or a trademarked term like "Good to the Last Drop aren't protected by Copyright. They are treated as legal representation for advertising purposes.
So, a comedian can use the trademark term "good to the last drop" in a punchline on national TV or in a movie without having to get permission to the parent company of Maxwell House Coffee.
But an artist or designer holds the copyright to their creation, and there's legal processes for the use of their creation by outside entities to promote someone or something, or to make money off that creation, or for someone else to claim it as their own creation.

(8,198 posts)I worked in IP licensing for a couple decades, managing corporate IP (patents, trademarks, copyrights) licensing & we routinely registered our trademarks in China, including for products we didn't make, because that prevented Chinese companies from using our name on those products. It's common for companies that license their trademarks globally to do that.
ProfessorGAC
(76,693 posts)They trademarked every product & variants in China, although 5 divisions were unlikely ever to be made in China or sold into those far east markets.
It was done for the very reason you described.
LisaM
(29,633 posts)There are a lot of trademark squatters in China who register other company's marks and it's onerous to remove them.
ProfessorGAC
(76,693 posts)...not competing in markets requiring reactions governed by our trade secrets, because there's no way to keep is secret there.
There were a few tricks we did in the chemistries we did practice but the risk of letting those tricks leave our sites was moderate, at most.
I don't think any intellectual property is safe in China.

(8,198 posts)...all from people who've never worked a day in IP licensing with no experience in IP law & how it all works in the modern world.
We licensed technology patents & trademarks, I guarantee you have our tech in your PC/Mac, phone, TV, laptop, tablet, & probably more. Whatever you're using to read this message, our tech is in it. I'm sure you're familiar with COGS (class of goods & services). We didn't make clothing but through our China office we arranged to have some T-shirts made & sold in China, so that we could register our TMs there in the clothing COGS (or the Chinese equivalent) so that no Chinese company could make clothing using our trademarked name. That's just one example, it was normal to have registrations in dozens of COGS for products we didn't make (defensive registrations). If you're serious about protecting your IP, that's what you do. And I'm sure you know about the cases where a company didn't actively police & defend their IP & courts ruled that they had allowed it to become generic.

(168 posts)Each individual artist was specifically harmed at different events, times, dates, etc. So, we're looking at a pattern of behavior that is repeated. But they weren't all harmed in exactly the same way (like stock fraud).

I have no idea WHO owns the rights to their music, because it has been bought several times.
It looks like Hayes may have signed on to the new label, so maybe he's in luck! (But then, I heard that all of their old music was lost to investors)

(34,286 posts)It would be rather he paid to use the song and was he required to pay etc. The same licensing requirements apply to the NBA etc. It's not campaign laws, it's just licensing. Often times, it's the venue that pays and not the campaign.
Stax is R n B: Sam and Dave. Otis Redding. Staple Singers, Booker T and the MGs, (I think a few Aretha Franklin)

(34,286 posts)The music in the mall is a fusion of an Otis Redding tune and Booker T. I believe one of the Blues Brothers was with Booker T and the MGs.

(34,286 posts)Can't hear "Time is Tight" too well in the background, but in the car chase movie scene, you can hear it quite well. You hear the organ going on the the background with the Booker T riff....
First time I saw the movie: "This sounds like Booker T and the MG's", but I couldn't place it because it was something else.
Brother Buzz
(39,895 posts)Curiously, Steve Cropper initially recruited Isaac Hayes as a replacement session keyboardist because Booker T. Jones was leaving for college. Turned out, Booker T continued to do Stax session work on weekends while in college.
Things really took off when the sage, Cropper, paired Isaac Hayes with David Porter and cut them loose.

(22,582 posts)I presume this actually means "lawyers representing each of those entities" are required to appear, but it sounds like a crowded courtroom either way.
Shame on all of them for disregarding the wishes of the Hayes estate.

(4,243 posts)... figuratively speaking, of course. This courtroom appearance might provide the Orange Gargoyle with a perfect opportunity to tank his chances of winning once and for all. He is incapable of keeping his fat, racist mouth shut, and stealing from a deceased black artist means nothing to him. Here's hoping he fucks himself royally.
His musical choices are pretty much limited to Kid Rock, Lee Greenwood, and Ted Nugent. Nugent wrote a song years ago called "Jailbait". That would be perfect for Trumpleforeskin.

He already has something on the 5th and then a sentencing hearing for his 34
felonies in the middle of the month, and dont be surprised when T-Swizzle sues
his ass for the unauthorized use of her picture.

So Donny is on the hood for 83 million to E. Jean Carroll, something like 350 million
to New York State, and now this.
