(11,179 posts)I mean really... is that conversation starter in your mind?
"Do you see my piece (allegedly) of Trump's debate suit?"
If I EVER was in close proximity to ANYONE that thought or said anything remotely similar to that, I would schedule an intervention to try and save them from hurting themself or others... I also would make damn sure that THEY were not getting a Christmas card!!!

(130,533 posts)would buy something like that, because I'd have to bite my tongue until it bled to stop myself from saying "Are you out of your fucking mind? Why would you spend even a dime on something that stupid? What the actual burning hell is wrong with you?" And then I'd back away slowly and delete them from all directories and unfriend them from everything.

(2,300 posts)MAGA is a cult. Of course they'll buy it. And like all religious relics, a lot of them are incredibly fake. Produced specifically to separate gullible people from their money. The only difference between this and Christian relics, is that Christian relics are older, and have a acquired a patina of authenticity.

(130,533 posts)Probably encase them in a jeweled golden urn and put them on a home altar where they could pray to them, like the Shroud of Turin or a piece of the True Cross.

(130,533 posts)"For $99.99 you can have a toe bone of St. Dingleberry for your own home altar!" (Of course it did sell indulgences, which got Martin Luther all worked up, but that's another story). It's beyond weird that a presidential candidate would sell this crap. I don't recall this sort of thing being done, ever, by any politician. There's always been basic campaign merch - buttons, coffee mugs, caps, t-shirts - but selling things that are (allegedly but probably not really) connected to the person, very much like a religious relic, is super weird. Obama never tried to sell pieces of his infamous tan suit, or the jacket he was wearing in the situation room during the raid on Bin Laden's hideout. Even Reagan, whom I did not like at all, didn't hawk pieces of the clothes he was wearing when he was shot (and he had enough worshippers that some people might have bought them). W didn't sell pieces of his famous flight suit. Only Trump does this, and it's deeply weird and unspeakably tacky. And weird is piled upon weird because people do buy these things; otherwise he wouldn't be doing it. WTAF is wrong with someone who does that? At least holy relics like the Shroud of Turin have a patina of - if not authenticity - antique interest and reverence, if that's your thing, because they're so old, but turning a scrap of cloth that might have touched Trump's sacred orange hide (but probably didn't) into the equivalent of a holy relic is bizarre, idolatrous, and weird. But it's not a cult, right?

(49,295 posts)The really horrific thing is how many once-respected elected Republicans and party leaders jumped on board to support and enable him, and continue to do so.
