General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI worked at McDonald's.
I flipped burgers and pancakes when I was in high school.
I have never put it on a resume.
I have never put it on a job application.
I mention it every once in a while in passing conversation. I think it's kinda funny.
I clearly remember feeling like my entire body was covered with grease when I got off my shift. And the smell took days to go away. Disgusting.
But I thought I should contribute some anecdotal evidence, that just because it's not on her resume doesn't mean she never worked there. And questioning her claim of working there just because it's not on her resume, is pretty stupid.... at its best is bad journalism but in reality it shows how deep they have to dig to find anything they can even question and attempt to turn into an issue.
Sucks to see this non-story getting traction, but ultimately it's encouraging because it shows how desperate they are.
I'm a vegetarian now and the only thing I use McDonalds for is their bathroom.

(10,069 posts)that was 40 years ago.
it's besides the point.
sure maybe I did on the next job after that.
but is that relevant to the question of whether or not I worked there and if it would show up on any of my job applications or resumes that anyone could find today? nope.

(9,433 posts).... NEVER put it on a resume or application. My next job was an engineering job after graduation. A job flippin' burgers and emptying grease bucckets didn't seem relevant. I got the job, so...

past 10 years. Or more than four jobs if within 10 years.
Nobody wants to hear what I was doing 40 years ago.
And when I applied to work for a major media-buying corporation one year after graduating college, I'm certain that including my two-month stint at an ice cream parlor two years prior wouldn't have enhanced my candidacy.

(10,266 posts)I was a girl, so I didnt cook. Only boys did that. The girls worked the front. I dont think I ever put it on a job application. I never worked fast food after that. I could type, so I went for crappy office jobs where I could be sexually harassed by guys in suits instead of paper hats.

(9,043 posts)How many decades ago was this?
Does McDonald's even keep records of all its employees that far back? Pay archivists to maintain the records?
Is there in fact an McDonald's archives that would have this sort of information available? A record of every single one of the hundreds of thousands or even millions of former employees?
Sounds like a non-story to me.

(7,622 posts)And I have worked in my career for 40 years. If you put every job on your resume that you have had since you were a teenager, you stand an excellent chance of being screened out by HR or the department head. They want a 2 - 3 minute look at your resume,, not a short story.

(47,940 posts)She didn't put McDonalds on her resume, and Tim Walz pets dogs that don't belong to him? I'm voting for Trump.

(37,701 posts)In college . . . I haven't put it on a cv since 1995.
The only time it comes up is when people ask -what was one of the funnest jobs you ever had. I worked with a fun crew and we had a lot of fun.
It has not had any bearing on my career path.

(2,262 posts)McDonalds, Stop and Shop Store Clerk, waited tables in restaurant, washed dishes in the college cafeteria, sold bait on a fishing pier, life guard. Never listed any of these on any resume. All I had to say was that I just graduated college and that was the end of the story.

(6,842 posts)Maybe if I had applied for another fast-food job I would have. If this is the best opposition research they could pull off, I don't think we have much to worry about.
