Postmaster General Louis DeJoy has a message for America: The U.S. Postal Service is ready for a flood of election mail and is better positioned to do so than it was four years ago.
The Postal Service has been undergoing rapid changes, including the opening of large hubs, but some of those changes are being paused before the election to ensure they dont interfere with performance, DeJoy said. And it will be all hands on deck to ensure the millions of mail-in ballots are delivered swiftly to their destinations.
Were going to be in great shape for the election. Im pretty confident about everything that were doing, DeJoy told The Associated Press ahead of an official rundown Thursday of election mail practices. The American people should be confident.
Its a far cry from four years ago, when DeJoy, just a few months into the job, was being criticized as a Donald Trump crony who was dismantling mail-processing machines and removing blue postal boxes to undermine the election as Trump, the president at the time, sowed distrust in the Postal Service. Despite being excoriated, DeJoys Postal Service performed admirably under a crush of mail-in votes during the pandemic, and strongly pushed back against what they said were false claims of any intentional effort to damage the postal service before the 2020 election.

I don't trust this man. it's one of the things I don't get: why Biden kept him on.

(2,218 posts)being a fan of DeJoy (absolutely not).
But living in AZ, I've ALWAYS requested my ballot early and mailed to me, and ALWAYS dropped it into a box, at a polling place, on Election Day.
The past couple years, I started testing it. First in Primaries. Just mail it in. I always get an email and a text that it's been received. Then counted. All within a couple of days.
Maybe that speaks more to the efficiency of AZ elections than it does the Post Office under DeJoy overall. But it kinda won my trust, either way.

(55,377 posts)I have a mail-in ballot. I literally taking it to the Election Board in my county seat, signing the book, and leaving with an official. This election is too important.

(1,117 posts)with the same lame excuse as in 2020. I know hes not the current President and wouldnt have as much sway as back in 2020 but hes got so many puppets throughout congress and the Supreme Court.
The crazier this all gets, the more I feel for the people of Venezuela. I truly do not understand how something like this can be happening in America in 2024, its just mind-boggling to me.
