Erick Erickson, a Georgia Republican insider, said bluntly on Friday that former President Donald Trump is in real trouble after his frantic efforts to make himself more palatable to voters who believe in reproductive rights and other key issues. Writing on X, Erickson claimed to have had "private conversations" with fellow Republicans in which they argued that conservatives would actually be better off with Trump losing the 2024 election at this rate.
"The damage Trump is doing to himself is playing out in private conversations like this: 'We have a really good shot at taking the Senate. Manchin leaving gets us to 50. Tester is toast. That's 51. Between that and the Supreme Court, we can hold off Harris for two years and get more reinforcements then fight in 2028 for the White House. If Trump gets in, we set back the pro-life cause and free markets by a generation at least,'" Erickson revealed. "You can say that is crazy talk. But that crazy talk is happening more and more."
Erickson added that Trump still had the opportunity to right the ship, but that he needed to stop alienating traditional conservatives if he wanted to have any chance of turning things around.
"Trump, with Vance as his pick, hurt himself with the economic wing of the GOP," Erickson writes. "His Florida and IVF remarks hurt him with the pro-life wing. He was already hurt with the natsec wing. He's cutting off all three legs of the stool at the same time hoping 'But Harris' saves him. He's got real damage control to do. No amount of bullying 'but you're helping Harris' is going to fix this. Only Trump pivoting can."
In a separate post, he added that, "Sometimes, good stewardship means letting the field lie fallow for a greater harvest later."

(4,501 posts)so I would say calling Tester "toast" is way premature.

(246 posts)... an (R) Senate incumbent (or two, fingers crossed) might get surprisingly bounced out by a (D) challenger.
The more TSF melts down in his victimhood, makes stupid wee-hours posts about made-up shit, and creates idiotic sideshows like Arlington, the better the chances that red state voters might trap-door their incumbent (R) "senator". Like Cruz, Hawley. And who says Tester really is "toast" in MT, the blue voters up there have 6X days to boost his re-election. Kamala's popularity should inspire them like not seen since Obama coattails in '08.

(13,913 posts)& down ballot effect of straight ticket voting blue. I have my money on Colin Allred kicking Cancun Cruz' ass. Allred is as good a candidate as it gets and so far he's statistically tied, within 2 points of cruz.

(2,740 posts)Then the problem they have with Trump is not that he is insane, is that he isn't being conservative enough or something. The guy's whole argument comes down to Trump "setting the pro-life cause and free markets" back by a generation? He then essentially admits that Trump's only electoral argument is "vote for me because... black people!!" but that he still has time to "Right the ship" by ... coming out staunchly against abortion?
They've all lost their minds. Even the ones trying to pretend they don't support this insanity. The more they try to explain, the crazier they all sound.

(4 posts)I am a former Trump voter who made one post here and promised that you would never hear from me again. But this article peaked my interest
I can tell you theres a lot more of us Republicans/conservatives/former Trump voters out there with this mindset than youll know. We are sick and tired of being told by his supporters that we have to support him because hes not Kamala Harris.
I have not changed my mind about voting for Harris. I will have lots of disagreements with Harris. But I am cautiously optimistic that they will be honest disagreements. And Im also confident that Harris wont summon her supporters to attack the Capitol if things dont go her way.
When a team has a coach thats consistently losing games, that coach has to go. His temper tantrums and name-calling does not inspire anybody to go out and vote for him
You guys are lucky you have a candidate that represents your values this year.
