From what I have seen and heard in the last couple days from military folks I talk to and civil servants... they can't accept him for these offenses and will not vote for him, period. Whether they go with Harris or a 3rd party or just stay home, they won't be voting for the orange ogre. There's the assault of the staffer, and there are other laws that were broken. I am looking to House/Senate committees to take this further.

I guess infantry should only respond when personally attacked, and only to the particular attacker. Until Mike Johnson says it's ok.

Yes, I am fully aware that assault is breaking the law. Not only is it obvious and a well-known fact, it has also been discussed at length on this and so many other threads about the day at Arlington. I am hearing many people say, "Well, she won't press charges so that's it. The Army can't or won't do anything." I am seeing people say the Army copped out, as you did. I am also reading people like Heather Cox Richardson who are explaining how unusual and significant it is that the Army actually put out a statement. And through all the discussion of the assault, I am also curious about the consequences of all the other things those bozos did wrong at Arlington and about Arlington after the day's events were over. They're not done yet.
Before we leave the assault, with the protection of her identity, I don't even know if she's a civilian or a soldier--do you? I'm curious. The Cemetery does hire civilians, though to be a security guard you must be a veteran. If she is a civilian, they may have protocols for "employees" that differ from an enlisted person. I do not know. I will be watching. We'll see what happens. Also, it is not unusual for a woman who has been a victim of physical abuse to be accused of having "mental health issues." How many women don't press charges for all kinds of physical and mental abuse? Yes, I am aware that assault is breaking the law, and also aware of what it is like for a woman to press charges. Very aware.
I am trying to learn which other laws (and not just rules) apply specifically to Arlington National Cemetery and also to other federal and military properties.
When I am reading articles about this, here and elsewhere, I am seeing 1. the assault 2. use of photos in political campaigns 3. having campaign events at Arlington 4. Taking photos of gravesites of veterans whose survivors have not given permission 5. various forms of using all these photos. I'm sure there's more since I last scanned the news. Some of these activities break rules, some break laws that are specific to Arlington and/or other federal and/or military facilities.
All of this is starting to be combined into one blobby blur of description. The reporting is getting murky; the discussions are murkier. All media wants to cover it and everyone's trying to figure it out. (Except for the people who think they know everything. I try not to fall into that trap.)
I spent more time than I should have this afternoon reading a very long discussion between attorneys who are trying to determine exactly what laws DT and his gang broke. They are not clear yet, either. It is a topic of debate. It's kind of like this, but it's kind of like that, etc. They're having a lot of fun with it but for as long as I could pay attention, they just weren't sure.
Then there is the angle of depending on which law was broken, who would be responsible for handling the breaking of the law. Which authority? Department of Defense? Commander in Chief? Civil authorities?
I am watching to see who is picking what up. I know that at least one Senate committee that's involved with the armed forces is discussing it, and the last thing I saw (several hours ago) said that a House committee is also exploring it. I'm sure more has happened since I last scanned the news.
I will be standing by to see what happens next. Keeping it in the public eye, as messy as it gets, is critical. This event had things in it to offend so many different types of people, all of whom happen to be critical blocs of voters. I don't think it will go away as quickly as so many events have.

(41,634 posts)The press has outed (already doxxed) the name of the woman soldier who was following orders and doing her job. But there's been no mention of who are the offending staffers who did the yelling and pushing. Who broke the law, assaulted the soldier, and ignored the restrictions? Someone needs to be held accountable, and if the staff won't come forward then it guess it has to be Chump himself.
Lulu KC
(8,893 posts)or that she is a soldier. Interesting.
FakeNoose
(41,634 posts)She was trying to prevent Chump and the unnamed staffers from entering the property and taking photographs for political purposes. It was clearly against the law for them to even be there. The soldier has now been named (doxxed) on social media and several krazy-kult MAGAs are threatening her. She was doing her job and following orders! Why isn't her commanding officer sticking up for her?
Meanwhile the Chump staffers who caused all this trouble are getting off scot-free.
Lulu KC
(8,893 posts)But I did not know she'd been identified as a soldier and not a civilian employee. I don't get on social media where any identities are revealed, even of users (unless by choice), so I'd totally missed that she was doxxed. There's so much info out there!

My grandfather was apprenticed to the carpenter who had the contract to build gallows in their Wild West town back in the day.
