Poll shows Harris with a narrow but sizable lead.
WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK DOES THAT MEAN?
And they have David Durban, Republican whore and shill, reading Trump attributes from the poll, and the usual smiling Democrat on the other side who doesnt refute idiots well-rehearsed talking points.

(1,213 posts)It's better to believe that we are underdogs and fight like hell to make sure we get out the vote, rather than be over confident and wake up with a dictator on November 6th.

(5,345 posts)If people think Democrats are guaranteed victory, they might feel things like, "oh the weather sucks, or I've got other things I need to do, we are winning anyway so I really don't have to go vote."
Whether intentional or not, it's our best GOTV tool.

(3,943 posts)The bandwagon effect is more powerful. Thinking we are underdogs may motivate a few of us here, although I can't imagine that any of us need more motivation. But the general public likes to get behind and associate themselves with the winning team.

(262 posts)The argument could be made that Trump losing will be better for the MSM. Hell have a long public meltdown. He will stand trial for all his crimes
But youre right they do sanitize every outrageous thing he does. To an uninformed viewer they tune in and think, well they dont seem to think this is that big of a deal, must not be

On edit: This (video) is what I think of when certain posters sit in their angry chair and throw a tantrum because trump isn't in jail for their personal favorite crime. Come on already: how would you like to have your dick (or lack thereof) being discussed on national television? And so vividly, too!
Tell me that's not a form of punishment.

(53,994 posts)and were talking about how Harris didn't get a convention bump. She was leading Trump by about 6 points going in and she's leading him about 6 points now. I interpret that as people deciding immediately they want a sane POTUS over a nutjob.
lees1975
(7,046 posts)Going in, or at least that's what they were reporting. Who knows? They are all over the place. A week ago we had people posting that the voter registration data was showing Democrats lagging behind, in spite of seeing an actual surge in registration. Then, suddenly, there's a media dump, all at once, that shows registrations soaring for Democrats. It was all over the news all the time when Republicans seemed to be making small gains, but now that the Democrats had this huge surge, it got covered once and that's it, done.
Obviously she got a decent convention bump, she was behind in several battleground states and now leads in all. Or so the polls say, at least the ones I can find and selectively quote the same way the media does.
I saw two different networks, CNN and NBC, cite contradictory polling data, one said she's up by 2 in PA, one said she's up by 6 in PA.
So I'm looking at other factors indicating voter enthusiasm that might be more accurate, such as yard signs. Since the DNC, the blue Harris Walz signs have popped up everywhere, driving to work on Friday, I counted 102 Harris-Walz, 5 Pro-Union and 2 curling Trump signs without Vance. So there you go.

(17,802 posts)The offial signs are running late. You have to buy unofficial ones if you want them immediately.
Of course, the campaign doesnt get the profit.
lees1975
(7,046 posts)I don't think my anecdotal yard sign count, which occurs along streets in the city of Chicago, is a determining factor in where voters are. I think yard signs are available here because we had the DNC and they handed out thousands of them. Even so, Harris will get 85% of the vote in the city.
But, I do think we are not seeing the full effect of what is actually going on. Democrats have a ground game that I have not seen work like this since 2008, when Obama beat McCain. The voter registration, which was something polls were using to factor voter "enthusiasm" has shot way up for Democrats in a couple of weeks, as numbers are counted and recorded and released. We had people here moaning about the numbers in the 13 states where party registration is tracked, because the GOP had a slight edge. That got wiped out fast.
And I get why polls are being cautious. One, the media outlets that own them lose money when their viewership goes down and they want to make this exciting to attract viewers and two, they've been way out of their comfort zone for four election cycles now, and they have to do a lot of rebounding with false narratives and past-dated articles to defend themselves.
Polls are not cautious.
People can be, if they so choose.

(14,443 posts)yesterday morning when I went out for breakfast to tell me they loved my Harris Walz bumper sticker. He was so excited, telling me it was the first one he has seen this year. My area of the Keys is pretty red, although further south in Key West it gets bluer.

(76,704 posts)And, if this is at all meaningful, I see fewer TFG signs than in either '16 or '20. And, there were already fewer of them in '20 than in '16.
I've probably a half-dozen Harris signs over the last week.

The takeaway is momentum is still favoring us so let's not get complacent. It's not over until it's over. We have to work for it.

(8,610 posts)how to do the job properly. Too many are just failed actors who have nice hair and expensive teeth. Their chief ability seems to be the capacity to cheer-lead emotions while reading from a cue card, or a GOP press release. My tenth grade English class would have weeded many of them out. How does a reporter get the interview or press conference assignment and have no follow-up questions to ask?
And we will omit comment on the quality of editing that defines so much of what is seen and heard since the language required doesn't bear public expression.
