DC as VP, plus x yrs as a Senator.
Right next to Virginia; a Southern State. I'm sure there have been people around her here, and there, or more frequently talking Southern!

I remember as a teen first hearing older, and elder African-Americans on our local buses; who might have been part of the Great Migration of Southern AA to The North (NYC in my case) as kids, tweens, or older often having a Southern lilt.

Then I visited the Decatur, GA area in my early 20's for about 5 days. When I returned home; I had a lilt for around 3 days myself. By osmosis from those 5 days, and probably unconsciously earlier on primed by my fellow African-American Bus riders.
