He's broken every rule. He has almost broken every law. He has bribed people. He has "glamoured" the Republicans in the House and Senate. He has "glamoured" the Supreme Court.
He has been impeached two times and is presently indicted in four criminal offenses. He was found guilty of 34 charges of fraud.
Yet, he is still there. Not only is he there, but he is running for the President of the United States.
It is obvious to anyone with half a brain that he is a liar and a con artist. He is a grifter and a thief.
But he has persuaded a large proportion of our population into believing that he is a messenger from God, and with God's permission, he is able to disobey all the Commandments and he exemplifies every one of the seven deadly sins.
Why is it so hard to get rid of this tyrant?

(894 posts)...convicted felon who engaged in a coup against the U.S. government and who'd implement Project 2025 to the hilt and become a dictator on Day 1 if he regains power, could be neck-and-neck with a law-abiding vice president and former prosecutor who genuinely wants to protect democracy and make the lives of Americans better.
Then you realize that Trump is backed by huge voting blocs that only care about advancing their respective agendas and couldn't care less about Trump's character, incompetence, stupidity, the rule of law, our democracy, or anything else. They just want what they want and will be steadfast in their support for Trump as long as they think he'll deliver for them if he regains the White House.
Here are the main voting blocs that are making this race competitive (some groups overlap with others):
Evangelical Christians/Christian nationalists/Christian dominionists.
White nationalists.
Pro-lifers.
MAGA fascists.
Those are the groups we're going to defeat at the ballot box in November.

(13,384 posts)with flags that say things like Jesus is my Savior and Trump is my president. All kinds of cutesy things around yard.
These people have to be deluded, they must believe that he is innocent of the crimes and us bad people are the ones lying.
It's maddening that a guy can do so many things wrong, even admit to some of them like that tape where is says I can do anything because I am a star. He cheated on every wife. Probably still would if he could get it up. He was guilty of rape and they probably say, liberal courts in NY.

(3,577 posts)Theres a great deal of fear, ignorance, stupidity, racism, bigotry, misogyny, and hate in support of Trump.
His supporters believe his impeachments, indictments, and criminal convictions are all false, driven by partisan politics, with the intent to 'get Trump.'
With regard to Trumps hateful rhetoric, incessant lying, and reprehensible conduct, the response one will get from Trump supports is that you just dont get Trump, or Trumps just kidding, he doesnt really mean it, or that Trump is telling it like it is, hes not afraid to speak his mind, hes not like other politicians.
Trump supporters are just as hateful as Trump, just as dishonest as Trump.

(26,589 posts)And a stubborn minority can control a majority ( the GOP) by threats, monkey-wrenching it, and threats of primarying. In short, leverage.
By taking over the party, they leverage a well-cultivated hate and lie campaign against the Democrats.
The latter can be attacked, especially as women, youth, and a minority population that is now "majority minority" in 6 states, gets tired of being disenfranchised.
They also leverage a rabid RW/Putin press and bot army and spineless, gutless media who refuse to call out a sociopath and liar.
Race: Trump is white. To condemn him outright would send a message that other American white 'leaders' don't want to send - admitting the conclusive error of one of their own. If Obama had done even a quarter of what Trump has done in his lifetime Obama would have never reached the White House.
Lawyers: Many an injustice has been perpetrated by lawyers and their self-serving interpretations of the law. Many lawyers do not care about what is right or wrong, they care about how a case is 'presented' in their favor. The better the money, the better the presentation.
Cult: Many who join cults do so because they want someone who exemplifies what they could not achieve themselves on different levels. If that one thing is satisfied - whatever it may be in the cult member's psychology - then they will accept any glaring faults of the cult leader unquestioningly even unto death. Kool -Aid and a chance to rendezvous with the mother ship come to mind as examples.
The failure of American education in creating 'salaried slaves', whatever their color.
Politics: The incessant need of the public for a political savior and the willingness of unscrupulous psychological carpetbaggers to provide one - campaign, after campaign, after campaign . . . .
A lot of other things but I'll leave it at that. I'm sure other commenters will have their own examples.

(3,138 posts)Most people have some sense of shame, decency, self-restraint, or loyalty to anything other than themselves. I've lived to see multiple Republicans concede elections they were projected to lose, for example.
Trump has (accurately) assessed that he might benefit from making all sorts of illegal attempts to reverse an election that he clearly lost, well after that was proven. His analysis is that he won't do jail time and he might win, so the gambit is in his favor. So he does what he wants. And he applies this approach to everything.
Trump also understands the psychological effect of committing his crimes openly. He doesn't hide his crimes because he is open about his belief that our laws don't apply to him. He's the king, because of course he is! He's literally Jesus to 30% of America for fuck's sake! No law that he broke could possibly be legitimate.
Our system runs on norms more than consequences when it comes to our elected officials. Trump has been impeached twice, but not removed from office. He's been indicted and convicted, but he has secret service protection, and it's unclear how incarcerating him would work in a practical sense.
So he's willing to make total war on our system in a way that no one has done since Jefferson Davis because he knows it would be hard to stop him.
I think we CAN get rid of him, but we DO have to MAKE HIM GO AWAY. And this isn't something our system was optimized for.
