(60,375 posts)If there is going to be a minipulable clown as president, it's either one Dick Cheney can manipulate, or else someone who actually can think for themselves. Even for Cheney, it must go too far to have a lamebrain as president who can't be successfully manipulated except by the leader of Russia.

(13,003 posts)That all of these Republicans who are NOW chipping in with their backing of the Dems, were the exact same ones, who for FOUR plus years brought us to this point............
The fact that none of them recognized what would be coming, doesn't speak highly of their intelligence or intuition.......
They all went overboard in creating this "Frankenstein's Monster situation, and only NOW are they trying to reverse all that they did......
Once again, we are faced with the Dems trying to reverse yet another disaster after Republican's regime......
Maybe, to recognize how GOOD something is, you have to see how BAD something you created can be......

Trump may go away, but these people are still absorbed and consumed with this "New" Republican Party....and their intent.....

(100,133 posts)My observation at the time was that in their greed & rapacity, they thought they could ride the tiger
and they thought they could steer the tiger and make it do their bidding. They thought the tiger would never hurt them, because they were that special.
Wrong.
They were fine with everybody else getting mauled, because it wouldnt be them.
Wrong again.
Even the ones who stuck around trying to mitigate the damage (see steering the tiger ) accomplished nothing but the wreckage of their own legacy.
So sadly wrong.

(13,003 posts)Having barely finished high school, and no college, I had to look up rapacity.......what an excellent word !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AND, we can't forget the amount of work that Putin put forth !!!!!!!!
Along with this time around, not only Putin, but N.Korea, China, and the Saudi's aiding the Republican Party....The Director of Intel has stated that the amount Putin contributed in the 2016 election, is nothing compared to what they are seeing from Russia and other countries this time around.
My friend, (who came from Russia 20 years ago and got his citizenship) and I talk frequently. I ask him what he hears from his relatives/friends back home in Russia. He says that the Russian Citizens are all laughing at HOW EASILY Putin played Trump and the Republican Party, in bringing down our Democracy and Economy. The amazing thing, he says, is how they all watched Putin succeed without firing a single Rocket or Missile, or starting a war.........They all grasp how Putin has contentiously groomed Trump and many other Republican politicians here in America for decades to get to this point.........

(1,107 posts)I totally agree with this. In their lust to obtain and retain power, they underwrote the Tea Party and then finally the MAGA coalition, pretending to themselves that one day their investment would never fly back into their face.
Not only did they screw themselves, they've screwed everyone else in the country, and perhaps in the world. Because even if Trump loses this time, MAGA is not going away. Once fascism gets it roots in deep, like an invasive species it's very hard to ferret it out.

Not excusing his work for oil and the money he made, nor the lives he ended, but matters of degree matter. Trump and his sponsors want to overthrow American Democracy. He is an enemy of the state.

(257,931 posts)For stepping up and her courage. And I remember after the second impeachment hearing when Dick Cheney joined his daughter in the chamber - and when they sat on the Republican side, he turned around to see that they were the only Republicans there - and he was very disappointed. I never thought I'd agree with Dick Cheney on anything, but he did the right thing. And when Liz Cheney stepped up to work on the J6 Committee, she also got a thank you note from George W, Bush*. Country over party.

(512 posts)On the positive side (in many states) Every Vote (if allowed to be cast) Counts.
However, what is concerning is that it is highly unlikely that politicians such as Cheney, who represent end-stage capitalism, have genuinely shifted their socio-political views. Their stance likely remains unchanged from when they were in power.
Instead this situation highlights how they have been left behind as the Republican Party has diverged from its conservative roots, as the extreme right-wing factions have taken it in new and frightening directions.
Nevertheless, anyone who can contribute to stopping MAGAworld is welcome!
We Democrats have a tendency to magnify minor differences within our party and with our allies, often resulting in ineffective and election-losing infighting. Please: lets not make this mistake again!
The ancient, unattributable, adage, Amicus meus, inimicus inimici mei (my friend, the enemy of my enemy), is a wise guide for the upcoming election.

(3,660 posts)Whatever else is going on, be very wary of Republicans -- especially those who straight-up stole the election in 2000 -- who now suddenly "see the light" when the monster they created turns on them.
This is just two groups of hijackers fighting over the controls. Neither one of them are the good guys.
